Ramping up new antibiotic which option?

Starting Bactrim supposed to take 1 pill 2x/day but will start with 1 pill for a few days to gauge effect. Better to take 1/2 pill 2x/day or 1 pill 1/day or am I splitting hairs? Thanks.

If the pills are easy to split, I would take 1/2 pill twice daily....

but, it probably is splitting hairs...

thanks girlie the bactrim pills are real easy in fact they have a depressed line cut right in the middle of it. i'll do it over 3-4 days and ramp up. last time i tried to take bactrim went 1 pill 2x/day and around day 6 got some bad reactions to it. looking at my 23andme data through geneticgenie i might have a sulfa aversion. if so i'm going to ask my llmd to prescribe me just Trimethoprim.

so glad you asked this, I just started bactrim today, took the first dose this afternoon. Def herx from it, I'm hoping I'll be able to manage but will probably do as Girlie suggested so I can ease my way into it. I always have to be careful with meds, I have issues with herxing.

Rikky1 - Trimethoprim? That's a new one for me...what is it?

Bactrim is made up of 2 antibiotics Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. Suflamethoxazole is the sulfa pdrug Trimethoprim is not.

I'd love to tolerate Bactrim since one of the abx is an anthelmintic which is highly effective against Babs and I believe Bart but we'll see.

When I was on Bactrim, both my red and white blood cells took major hits in my monthly blood work. Never figured out if it was a herx reaction, or side effect.

Might want to keep that in mind, not sure how common it is.

I'm on bactrim, seems to hit my WBC as well.
