Please help interpret my husband's Igenex test results.

IFA: <40
IGM: 31 +
41 ++
IGG: 41 +

I thought that since his IFA was below 40 that he was home free, but maybe not?

Per the Igenex lab report - you are Igenex positive if two of the following bands are present:

23-25
31
34
39
41
83-93

Looks to be positive.

Hi Seagurl -

I'm not sure about the IFA - maybe someone else can speak to that but the 31 band is a lyme-specific band that indicates a reaction to Borrelia DNA (OspA or outer surface protein A). This DNA protein is s significantly indicative of lyme, it was actually used to create the lyme vaccine awhile back.

The 41 band is a reaction to flagella, which could be Borrelia or might be a reaction to something else like dental bacteria.

I would guess this is probably a positive result.

except when the only bands are 31 and 41 - then it's considered indeterminate.

If it's important to have a positive result, there is a confirmation test: #488 for band 31 - to say that it is lyme and not something else like EBV.

Thank you for your input and advice. I suggested that my hubby get tested because of his symptoms and because I am also positive. Anybody have experience with the confirmation test, is it worth it?

Seagurl does he have lyme symptoms? That is really the definitive test.

I have not done the #488.

If you want it done, the Dr. needs to call Igenex...they hold the blood sample - but I don't know how long.

My husband was IND with bands 31 and 41 + and our LLND recommended he get it done (maybe to cover his own butt? not sure) - and it came back positive.
So, it changed his IND IgM to a Positive IgM

Per noted LLMD Richard Horowitz and author of "Why Can't I Get Better? Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease", any Lyme-specific band + symptoms = Lyme.

There are over 100 strains of Lyme that can cause human illness. We have tests for two strains. Since hubby is testing positive on one band of one strain and tick saliva is a salad bowl of infectious organisms, I see no need for further testing.

I think your money is better spent on treatment.

When my husband had it done last year, it was $100.


I can't remember how long they keep the sample...I wouldn't wait too long to request it....
