I asked basically the same thing when they county health department called me last year to inform me I had tested positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. (I had suspected I'd had lyme for 29 years already).
They told me that I am contagious, in that a tick could bite me, get infected and then bite someone else and make them sick.
Of course now I know it goes further than that, but that's it, they want to trace these outbreaks, and are supposed to report them to the CDC.
ETA, hopefully your physician will be knowledgeable enough (though it doesn't sound like it) to keep you on abx (antibiotics) for at least 90 days or follow some kind of protocol from an llmd for as long as he can submit prescript
ions under whatever he thinks your coverage will accept.
I'm on Medicaid, and so far they've been very good about
covering 90 days of doxy, 90 days of zithromax, and 30 days of Flagyl. He also prescribed augmentin for my strep throat complaint, along with the Flagyl, even though he knew the strep test came back negative.
