Reasons for false negative Lyme Testing - how true is this list?

After my disappointing news that my Lyme antibody test (ELISA) was negative, I went on a researching frenzy this morning.

Has anyone here heard of this or have any comments on the validity here?

Had an absolutely awful day of symptoms - this is truly terrible. I need to start treating this on my own since we are in no financial position to pay for all of the treatment with LLMD dr's that do not accept insurance.

made into a link .....thanks for sharing. Yes I've heard of many of these reasons. Such a shame that there are so many variables. This is why it is said that treatment should not just be considered based on test results but also clinical dx (i.e. symptoms). Too many people do not get treatments because doctors are only going by test results.

If you don't have the money for more testing, then use that money for treatment. You can start an herbal protocol and see how your body reacts. Just let us know how we can help.

didn't look at link but i tested negative 3 times on the western blot and elisa tests. all you get for results are positive or negative nothing else. if i actually got the band information and knew then what i know now i could've diagnosed myself. NEVER trust what anyone tells you without researching it yourself, especially when your health is on the line.

nbabz.....did you see the score of your ELISA test? where was the numerical value? Mine came negative but when I check the value was within the "inconclusive". When labs have inconclusive they score it as negative. A fallacy indeed.
Also if you did not have a Western Blot I would if I was you. An LLMD would test you for both. Sometimes if the ELISA is negative the western blot is positive.
I tested a second time 2 weeks apart from 1st ELISA test and both test were positive.

try it again.
Or pay IGENEX for their test it is still cheaper than some dr visit consultation.

Hi Artemix - my value was .217 - It had to be .9 or higher for a positive test. I wasn't sure what that meant and could not find any type of range to go off of when I googled.

They will not send it off for the Western Blot since it was negative. Hoping I can get the IGENEX test at the end of the month - hubby and I have to go over everything to see if we can afford it.

I had full on bulls-eye and symptoms and my tests came back negative. The testing is crazy.

Thank You Krimpet! My GP will only go off of test results :-( I shared with he what I've learned but she just kept going back to what the CDC and FDA recommend for testing and diagnosis.

They just look at me weird - LOL so I don't push it or argue with them much anymore. I've had a hard time in Dr's settings. I'm to follow up with my gastroentinoligist soon. Last time I saw him for all of my digestive issues I cried like a baby. I'm certain he thinks I'm bat ---- crazy!

Neg elisa .neg wb, positive absolute ,positive igenix ,neg western ,neg absolute ..confirmed via microscope ..60$

Each and every thing listed on that page you linked to is a valid and provable point as to why Lyme patients don't test positive for Lyme. I had to be in treatment for a full year before I finally got a CDC positive test.

Really a need for late stage testing that works. Thought I'd state the obvious.

I only know of one and it's 'stuck' due to funding issues because no one wants to get in the middle of that mess with the CDC - other than a few researchers that developed it or works with the researcher that created it.
