Son's igenex results

So had my son tested via Igenex full lyme panel since he had 3 ticks attached to him in early june. started him right away on doxy for 14 days and had no reaction to it + no symptoms of lyme disease. results were:

IgM came back IND for 31,39 and + for 41.
IgG IND for 39 and ++ for 41
IFA, Serum and Whole Blood all negative

He had EBV a few years ago no more symptoms. I heard EBV can light up 41.

Thoughts on whether anything to worry about? I figure since he's had no symptoms, didn't react at all to 14 days of Doxy and only positive is 41 which is cross-reactive with other corkscrew shaped bacteria including EBV I think he's in the clear.

thanks girlie. my llmd told me current recommendations are 14 days if tick bites/no rash or symptoms if you want to be conservative. he said too many abx are being used for superfluous reasons and its becoming a growing problem in the industry. he runs in the same circles as horowitz and a few other big wigs. i see him on friday and will show him the results see what he says.

28 days is just another two weeks tacked on .... I wouldn't risk it...and it possibly become chronic - then you're looking at a lot longer treatment...

i've been doing a lot of research and band 41 and there are tons of things that can light up this one. what i'm not quite sure about is the IND on the other bands. hopefully my LLMD can shed some light.

That's what all docs will say about abx use for a tick bite - they don't seem to remember that Dermatologists write open ended scripts for Doxy - at the same dose we need - all the time for acne!!!! And TB patients are always on abx for a full 12 months. Serious infections need serious treatment. Please push for at least 2 more weeks of abx for your son.

2 more weeks of abx will not put him a much risk of anything - yet not having those extra 2 weeks will set him up for a pretty good chance that he will relapse once his body is overloaded with stress. You know what it means to have chronic Lyme, and chronic Lyme is a MUCH greater risk to take than for him to have 2 more weeks of abx.

The problem within the 'industry' is that doctors write abx scripts for viruses instead of what they were designed for - infections!!

And IND means indeterminate, not quite fully positive, but a reaction has occurred - which needs to be counted as a positive if it's appearing on a Lyme specific band, as there WAS a reaction on that band and only 2 out of the 100 possible strains can cause a reaction on those bands.

Lostlymie - band 45 generally appears for Ehrlichia. When a person has one tick-borne infection, the safe bet is they have more than just one.
Band that are specific for Lyme are: 25, 28, 34, 37, 39, 83, 93
Band 58 is likely from Borrelia afzelii - a European strain.

Now that he recently has been exposed to lyme is the optimum time to treat for a short amount of time successfully.

I would hate for you to be so very sorry in a year.

I had a bite and rash (april) and 1st symptom in June was just head pain (tolerable) July was Igenex and I ONLY had 31, 41 on IgM and 41 and 58 on IgG.

But I had lyme, babs and bart.

It will not hurt if your babe has been exposed. It is so much easier to put lyme into remission if you catch it early. I am one of those fortunate ones that got immediate treatment and it only took me a year to put mine in remission!

Rikky1 very curious as to what your LLMD says. Please let us know. As I posted in another thread, both of my doctors (and one is very good friends with Horowitz), says that 41 shouldn't even be on the test. Everyone typically flags a 41.

Yes I know.

because of the indeterminate on 31 and 39 Igenex is saying Negative. from what i've read IND can mean different things depending on the lab itself and its testing methods. it's not so cut and dry it seems. still i've already treated him for 14 days the night i removed 3 ticks from him (about 2.5 months ago at this point) so another round won't kill but could help. will let y'all know what the LLMD says but i'm opt to be cautious here for all the reasons we all know!
