Many areas now have 'rules' that state that the Western Blot cannot be ordered until the person has a positive ELISA (what your doc keeps ordering). This is wrong, as that test can miss up to 70% of those that actually have the infections.
Yes, this is one reason that we encourage members to use a LLMD and not their primary or other doc. That and treatments vary widely, but if a doc hasn't had enough ILADS training, they don't understand that and won't treat as long as needed.
I would encourage you to not wait around for your doctor to finally become educated about
these infections. Find a doctor that will test you with the Western Blot or will diagnose you clinically (by symptoms) so you can get into treatments.
Even the CDC states "Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks. Laboratory testing is helpful if used correctly and performed with validated methods. "
/www.cdc.gov/lyme/Granted, that's about
all they get correct, but the CDC does say that this is a clinical diagnosis.
