kcarlile and bluelyme - are you taking a daily iron supplement?
How often do you re-test?
I've not had the iron test done - just ferritin, rbc , hero
Yes, I am now taking a daily iron supplement. I just found out about
my low ferritin last week.
It wasn't something that my LLMD has tested for at all. My regular GP doc tested for it. He tested for it partly because he is skeptical about
lyme and he is trying to find anything that could be causing all of my symptoms.
But, for a GP is his pretty good. He doesn't agree with all the meds prescribed by the LLMD, but he being supportive. He just wants me to come in every 3 months and give him updates about
my treatment. He will probably test the ferritin again in 3 months.
I've had so many weird issues for years - low B12, low vitamin D, low folic acid, sjogrens syndrome (well - they couldn't pinpoint this exactly, but said it was closest to sjogrens); nerve damage in both legs that required surgery, gluten intolerance, and so forth. So, my GP likes to monitor me pretty closely.
Even though my bulls eye rash and CDC positive lyme test happened last Fall, my LLMD thinks that I could have had lymes for much longer (which might explain my autoimmune and other issues). I do remember being bit by a tick when I was in fifth grade on a camping trip. I lived in Virginia at the time.
Who knows! It's all so confusing.
