Hey guys,

I have been clinically diagnosed with Bartonella by my LLMD and just wanted to get your opinion about it. My Igenix result was ++ for band 41 and IND for 39. No positive for bart on the test.

My symptoms include:
Off vision - Slow delayed almost drunk like (Opthamologist cant see anything wrong) this was the first symptom I noticed 7 years ago!
Sensitive to light/sound
Fatigue
Brain fog
Cramps in calves
Burning pain in thighs and forearm
Poor circulation in hands and feet
Low neutrophils (consistantly <1)
Stiff neck and head pressure
Dizzy off feeling sometimes
Irregular heartbeats
Numb fingers occasionally

Do these sound like Bart symptoms?

I am treating with clarithromycin at the moment and adding rifampin in two weeks. I feel as though my symptoms have worsened since starting, withe the exception of two fantastic days where I had more energy than ive had in years. After being palmed around by so many doctors it is hard to believe I have finally found the answer (although i really hope it is!).

Im also detoxing with a range of recommended supplements.

If your llmd diagnosed you with Bart, you probably should listen to him.

Yes, PeteZa is right, listen to your doctor.
However, I was negative for bartonella too from IGenex. It wasn't until I was tested two years later through Galaxy labs I was properly diagnosed with bartonella. Galaxy labs specializes in the bartonella genus testing. I wish my doctors had kept me on the bartonella medication longer the first time, they kept on saying it sounded like I had bartonella but wouldn't do anything. Now 7 months into treatment with rifampin and biaxin my bone pain is finally gone! Bartonella is notoriously difficult to detect. One doctor told me it was worse than Lyme disease to find and identify through tests. It took me 4-5 months to begin to see any improvement. Hang in there!
P.S. When you say "burning pain" is that in the bones or joints or muscles?

Thanks for the responses.

I agree, I definitely will keep listening. Its just hard to keep faith when the symptoms hit full force.

The burning is on the skin like tiger balm or a hot rub has been applied to it.

Remember its normal to feel worse cause of herxing. Just to warn you many find rifampin intense so take it slow and detox a lot! Burning pain is a classic symptom my sister got prescribed gabapentin for it during treatment cause the herxing made it flare like crazy it worked wonders for her

Hi Australian1 - welcome to our community!

I have nerve pain - including burning - but mine doesn't feel like it's on the skin...but more under the skin - hard to describe.

Mine is from bartonella.

I think the burning pain in forearms and thighs, and the sensitivity to light and sound could be attributed to bartonella. Also, the poor circulation in hands and feet.
There is some overlap with lyme symptoms, though.

My neutrophils and lymphocytes are usually low - resulting in a low WBC count.


Are you doing enough to detox - this is really important.
