Do doctors prescribe Amoxicillin for Lyme?

Just wondering if doctors prescribe Amoxicillin for Lyme.

Yes, they do.

I was on it for a few months. It was the first one my LLND put me on (after my GP and another ND gave me doxy and azithryomcin)

You should be taking Probenecid with it. It's another medication that boosts the amoxicillin blood levels.
Amoxicillin has a very short half life of about 1 hour . So if you don't take the Probenecid, it is out of your system quickly.

Also, I was prescribed to take it three x daily...for the same reason as I mentioned above.

Many Dr.'s don't prescribe a high enough dose. Minimum should be 3,000 mg divided into three doses.
Can go up to 6,000 mg daily.

Yes I was given amoxicillin 4000 mg ...4 times a day...for 30 days.
That was all I took. Then LLMD asked me how I was doing....and I said...not too good.
I do not think the amoxy worked...may be some?? Not sure. It was almost two months ago.

Also, wanted to add that it's okay to be on the Amoxy with Probenecid for a few weeks before adding in another antibiotic...but not long term.

You should be on two antibiotics to treat late stage lyme. (Probenecid doesn't count - it's an old gout medication)


How long have you had symptoms...is it later stage lyme...or a recent case?

I've had Lyme for many, many years. I believe I was reinfected when we went to Conn. and went hiking.

Okay - then amoxy (with Probenecid) alone won't be enough.

You will need to add another antibiotic...after a few weeks on the one antibiotic.

You may feel better on it itnis a good test .welcome ..sorry you are here ...there are many different way of treating ..do them all...i waited till i could start iv abx herbs and bvt
