During my regular doctor visit in TX, I was surprised my Dr started interrogating me about my Lyme RX's.

I told him I was seeing a lyme specialist out of state. but the question continued and he seemed to have had access to my prescriptions and was asking me what else I was taking and for how long, and how many times I've seen the doc, and where was he..

I wasn't there to discuss Lyme, was there for something else and I could tell he wasn't happy about it, but he wasn't commenting either. I felt he was pumping me for information.

What was this all about? and how does he get to see my other doc's prescriptions?

Hmmm. I don't like that either. Had you signed a HIPPA form with your llmd?

Well wait a minute. That wouldn't be a factor unless you were being treated with narcotics or alcohol, I don't think.

Caramba,

There is a network where doctors can see your prescriptions. Pharmacy has it too. It is because people were/are abusing meds. This way a doctor/pharmacy can see if you filled an opitate in the last 30 days.

I would just say very politely "Why are you asking, do you think you have lyme?" This way he will have to respond.

Wow - seems a bit inappropriate to me. Your GP isn't a specialist. If you are being treated for other things, perhaps the Dr. wanted to know so as something wouldn't interact? I always print out a list of what I am on for my GP.

abx are not controlled substances, I'm curious what's shared on this 'network' and if one can opt out.

What I'm worried is him reporting my LLMD for "overprescribing" and getting him in trouble with their board, or labeling me as a "drug seeker" for going to another doc for abx. not sure if this happens outside the realm of controlled substances..

my GP was the doc I had to ask to run Igenex, and gave me my initial 21 days of doxy 6 months ago. he is not treating me for Lyme, as he "treated" it. we was willing to refer me to an ID back then, but I located my LLMD on my own.

The network was created for abuse but I doubt it breaks down whether it is an antibiotic or an opiate. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would like to believe that there is honor/code amongst doctors and they don't report on each other willy nilly. My LLMD prescribes so many abx. all day long and he's still open for business. I actually worry how they can just give three different abx. at a time to people.

It is pretty weird. I hope you were misinterpreting his tone, and that he is simply interested in your care. My Internist actually made an LLMD referral call for me, so the personal interest IS there if they're a good doctor.

I ran into the same situation. It might have been part of the new health care thing, dont know, but they can all see your Rx's in the name of "safety", doesn't matter what type/class of Rx either....its ALL of them.

No hiding it.

Here in Canada, all Doctors have access to our information. Everything my Dr. tests me for and prescribes - she types into her computer.

So, the next Dr. I go to can see it.

I think they've done this to keep track of people going to different Dr.'s for narcotics...and it has become a problem.

My GP doesn't have access to my abx because we see LLND's here..and they're not in the 'system'.
But she's aware I'm on long-term abx and is the one who orders my monthly blood work.

She just got my latest test results - for bart - positive...so she knows I still need to treat bart.

He was snooping.
There are nationally shared databases, the pharmacies are connected to share info for patient safety and prevent crime, ostensibly.
This is in response to endless narcotic hanky-panky. I busted several doc-hoppers that way at my clinic, one was getting Narcs from 4 docs at once and selling them on the street. Paid his mortgage that way! 6$ per pill for Percocet, last I heard, probably way more now.

You should give your LLMD a heads-up. Lots of docs might see your med list and ask a few questions, but when he started digging in about visit frequency, etc he was definitely looking to gather darning information.
He probably considers it his responsibility to keep you safe... or keep his belief system safe.

We need to protect our docs ...there is actually a movement with the antibuotic tesistance thing ..that they are to turn them in so they can be scutinized by the medical board of their state ..it is why most dont mess with insurance ...burrascano pioneered and lost his pracice to such tactics ..jemsek had to move ...unless you are on the east coast and even then ..they wont justify prolong abx therapy ...show your gp burrasco guidlines ..or get a new on ..damage may have been done already ..recently a new doc asked if i wanted t9 see their id duc and said no thank you i will stick with my guy...just give me the neuro referal ...he said you have muscular dystrophy and nothing can be done but i will humor you ...tip my hat smile and move on

SpeyFisher, yes that's what it felt like. I wasn't supposed to see him, was in for a draw to check my T levels, and the PA said he wanted to see me..

Caught me off guard, otherwise I would have told him that was between me and my other doctor :)
