When thinking about how Borrelia causes us negative effects, several plausible scenarios come into play. We know of the negative effects of too many free radicals, but one glaring possibility comes to mind. If Borrelia requires so much attention from our immune system that it can't properly manage our GI flora, then bacterial overgrowth can occur. When we treat Lyme, the antibiotics kill many susceptible bacteria in our GI tract and the ones left continue to flourish. The main group of bacteria that are of concern are the gram negative anaerobes. Even when our Borrelia load is diminished, the gram negative anaerobes can cause is issues just like Borrelia. Reinfection with Borrelia or other pathogens is extremely hard on our system because the tipping point to negative health has been moved and is so close because of the gram negative anaerobes. Gram negative anaerobes utilize nitrogen in their energy utilization process so foods high in nitrogen should be limited or avoided. Good yeasts like Saccharomyces should be reintroduced into the GI tract as they often get crowded out. Critical vitamins are diminished due to inflammation and need to be replenished.

I was from RI, and of course there are deer ticks and Lyme in NH, they are everywhere, but it is definitely not as prevalent, I mean, my old place was bad. I stopped going in the yard after awhile, it wasn't worth it. Here, I've mostly seen dog ticks so far. My old place in RI was on the CT line and only an hour or so from Lyme, CT.

I will look into all those herbals and protocols.

My very first time with Lyme after Dr. P diagnosed me, I looked up herbals that were good for Lyme people and I bought almost every one. I filled up the car with bottles! I took them along with antibiotics. That was before my first child and we were living in an apartment over husband's grandmother's house and didn't pay a lot. So I had so much more money I could devote to herbals. Now...it's been bare minimum for herbals and supplements. I take magnesium, betaine, biotin, selenium, grapefruit seed, milk thistle...and that's about it.

julymorning, well when I lived in RI, I went to CT to see my LLMD. And he was closer to the NY side. I guess as of now going to CT is an option but I was unsure if there was one here in NH or not.

I had baby #4 after I moved here in NH and my obgyn prescribed some of the Lyme meds for me while I was pregnant. I am thankful for them doing that. I was in the hospital and some of the doctors seemed accepting when I said I had chronic Lyme. Then I met one who was not. He said, "You know...some doctors...don't believe in that. The Lyme would not be able to survive antibiotics that long" I told him what my old LLMD told me about the Lyme hiding from the antibiotics. The doctor said, "There is no proof that is true." I told him some more facts and he finally said, "Well, I won't pretend to know everything...who knows."

My main symptoms when I slip up on my meds are, stabbing pains...they appear mostly in my torso, I will have stabbing pains in belly, ribs and my back. Mild headache, fatigue and just feel unwell. Usually it never progresses any further because I take the meds and it goes away.

Back when it was undiagnosed for a year and went rampant in my body...I must have had a hundred symptoms...fatigue, headache, dizziness, weakness, rashes, angioedema (hands swelled up big), 'woman' issues, confusion, couldn't find the right words, seeing flashing lights in my eyes, crying, anger, joint pain in my elbows, fingers, feet, knees....severe back pain, periods of time where I couldn't eat, nausea, hallucinations...when I was going through it, my dog had it for the first time and she was a Chihuahua, just a few pounds, she almost died, her kidneys began to fail. I had a neighbor that had it 7 times. A few other people that lived close by were really sick too, a lot of kids were. My first baby, I had her placenta and cord and everything tested with the instruction of Dr. J. Everything was negative. My body fails in so many ways but all 4 babies are healthy, so I've got that going.

Dr. P had started me on Tetracycline that first time. Just for a month. Then the rest of the time was Zithromax and Mepron. I kind of wonder if it's the Mepron is what did it. My other Lyme dr I mentioned from RI did the Omnicef and Doxy and he added Plaquenil sometimes and I never really took it. The side effects looked a little scary and if there is a side effect, I will get it. I'm very sensitive to things. So anyway, I've rambled enough...

Take everything that's been suggested already, then run with it! Detox, detox, detox.

Try every alternative protocol available to you - one at a time, of course, low and slow. Many are useful, in terms of killing and just supportive means.

Also, give essential oils a shot. I think they're godsends. I can't say they have cured me or anything, but they're doing a lot to keep me in a place to where I can keep fighting to figure things out, which is just it - there are so many angles to our health pictures, one size does not fit all.

A doctor, too, when you can.

The forum is a definite need for you along the way. Lots of good information and encouraging people in like states of mind and matter.

Either way, I pray you find your fit.

Hol, I am still wondering how you care for 4 babies, work and have lyme. You certainly are wonderwoman. My heart goes out to you and I am sending well wishes.

Thank you all so much! Very sweet. The first time I got better with the help of all of you and also a LLMD...and this time trying to do it on my own and ignore it and just take medications that weren't even prescribed...well I'm getting by, but it's not getting rid of it.

I really enjoyed having a place to 'comiserate' if you will. haha.

I mean I can't help with treatments too well, but if another members asks something like, "Is it normal to have XYZ with Lyme?" Then I can say yes, I've totally had that too...it went away. Or something like that.

I have been on antibiotics for almost 6 years almost nonstop. They are not curing me, but they do a good job of letting me live day to day.

I was messaged the names of a few LLMD in my area. One needs a referral, I will work on that, the others are Naturopathic doctors who use antibiotics plus herbals and natural treatments. One of them also needs a referral. I think most of these use insurance except for one who has an hourly rate. The rate doesn't look too outrageous, but I'm still figuring it all out.

I saw Dr. P during one pregnancy and phone consulted with Dr. J and my birth by products were sent away and tested and they came back clear. Second pregnancy I did not have Lyme anymore. Third pregnancy I was infected and Fourth I still had Lyme. I stayed on antibiotics for the first, third and fourth pregnancy. My LLMD that I had at the time said that he thinks the placenta does a good job of protecting baby from the disease...that he either read about a study or was involved in one, I can't remember, where it was actually difficult and unsuccessful to have baby mice contract Lyme from the mothers. He believed that breastfeeding was good because baby would get antibodies from Lyme and even some of my antibiotics in case baby did have Lyme. As of now, the children are 9, 7, 5 and 2 and everyone seems to be in very good health. The one who I was pregnant with when I was bitten in 2010 is 5 now and always happy, smiling and learned to read at a very young age, before his older brother.

I had a nasty flare after the last baby was born too, even though I was on antibiotics the whole time. I heard that can happen right? Something about after the pregnancy is over, a woman will relapse. Anyway, I was pretty sure I was going to die. A nasty yeast outbreak came with it and I had a terrible birth. It was a C-section and anesthesia didn't kick in and I felt the entire thing and screamed, and then I had very bad blood loss and was told I needed a transfusion and I was very anemic...anyway, I'm getting way off track here, but I definitely cannot have any more babies.
