Does anyone know of a doctor who would take a CSF sample and analyze it under a microscrope and tell you specifically what pathogens you might have?

I wouldn't do a lumbar puncture - unless it was necessary.

You realize that lumbar punctures often don't show lyme disease and/or co's. anyway?
Lots of false negatives.

Ya, it's just that I'm sure I have encephalitis. My brain is constantly swollen. Something's going on, and I think the only way to find out is to have my CSF analyzed under a miscroscope for pathogens. Otherwise I'm just poking around in the dark, and never finding the source of the problem.

I know that lumbar punctures are a risky procedure, but at this point, I'm not sure what else to do.

What does your LLMD say? is he concerned?

You already have a diagnosis for lyme, right?

Have you tried using something like Kudzu root? Buhner suggests it specifically for brain pressure, so I tried it and it's been helping me. It didn't help until I was nearly 2 weeks into it, so it may take a while for it to help.

I had a LP back in August and it really wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't volunteer to do another, but if there was a medical reason for me to I wouldn't bat an eye.

That being said, the presence of Lyme was below the cutoff and it was a waste of time 😀

Just to be clear, my "spinal tap" was done in a local hospital by the radiology department, not in an office by an LLMD. I would never advocate that.

My gf never recovered fully from her lp ...it can release pressure ..have you been on high doses of doxy mino?..

Bvt has helped to reduce my brain inflammation in 1 yr time as did rocephin

Yes, rocephin does seem to relieve my brain inflammation. Just temporarily.

I didn't mean to suggest that I was considering an LP to relieve brain pressure. I wanted to have a sample of my CSF analyzed under a microscope by a doctor. I want to identify what pathogens I have so I can focus my treatment.

I had a LP done this week. Ordered by my neuro to "further rule out" possibilities before my LLMD started abx. Dr didn't want abx to "taint" the sample. Like mentioned above, it's not terrible but I wouldn't recommend for Lyme or co unless serious neuro symptoms are occurring.
I could tell it was a very precise and controlled process so my guess is it would be tough to get and extra tube filled for your own microscopy. They take 4 very small tubes for testing to start. They showed me the fluid (crystal clear) and that's as close as I got. :)
