Mino with Doxy combo.....made me want to jump in my pool and take a deep breath....however,after finishing a 6 week round I felt "somewhat" better...go figure.

Rifampin was rough last year...same thing but it felt like it was wearing off and abusing my stomach.

Taking short breaks has helped with the gut issues.

reminder - Mino plus doxy? Is that a typo? They're both tetracyclines...not usually prescribed together.

Dr. M begins his talk about halfway through it.

I think I heard him say double the dose and with my friend taking 1200 mg Rifampin on his recommendation I assumed that is what he meant.

Rikky1, I dont believe you can pulse very well for Bartonella as it replicates every 24 hours. However I am hearing that from another LLMD and not from Dr. M as we are seeing him in Jan/17
Do you find Rifabutin is reducing your symptoms?

Rifabutin hasn't done much for me but neither did Rifampin. Sure it's helped but i'm not noticing a big difference in my Bart symptoms but at this point I'm not sure if its my immune system being all wacky or the bug load being too high. Bactrim is definitely helping with my head issues which i'm also attributing to Bart.

So, this is what I am wondering about pulsing not being effective for Bart. If pulsing for lyme is okay, and we do that for say 6 months - won't the Bartonella develop resistance to the lyme meds we're using? So, when we finally do treat Bart - we would have to make sure we don't use any of the ones we used to treat lyme?
Does this make sense...what I'm asking?

IDK - but I have read a lot about Dr. J and his commitment to treating patients...and I have to believe that he would change his ways if people weren't healing with the pulsing approach (and he does pulse the co-s - not just lyme) He has a lot of success.

That makes sense to me as Bartonella can develop resistance to antibiotics.
I wonder if Dr J is prescribing herbs for the antibiotic off days and thus still treating the Bart on all days?

We had poor advice and started pulsing our daughter back in the summer 4 days on 3 days off. After 4 cycles all symptoms came back and even though we went back to an everyday regimine we could not get the symptoms under control until we switched antibiotics.

Bug resistance seems to be overblown in that it's blamed far more than its actually happening, at least from my casual reading on the subject. There seems to be other factors at play we don't fully understand (like having multiple pathogens and how they synergistically create havoc in our bodies).

Your daughter's lack of progress may not have anything to do with the pulsing. I've had regimens that have worked great for 2 weeks then they stop working altogether. We don't always know why this happens and as Girlie stated Dr. J treats many patients with Bart and has had very good success.

Also if you are pulsing something like Rifabutin it has a 45 hour half life so you still have between 25-50% in your system if you are pulsing 4 days on 3 days off.

...so if that makes sense...then pulsing even for lyme wouldn't make sense...because if you follow that with treating for Bartonella...then you wouldn't be able to use any of the lyme antibiotics... because the bart would be resistant to them...

No, Dr. J. doesn't prescribe herbs for the days off (I know for a fact with a few patients he's treating).

Rikky - thing is - Dr. J. also has a full week off...after 2 weeks on...and he uses Rifampin with much lower half-life...

But for 4 months we saw steady improvement in my daughter then after the pulsing we lost like 3 months of gains.
I dont know for sure if its because Bart became resistant and its difficult to determine (I asked Galaxy Labs if they could measure resistance and they said no)

So Dr. J is curing people of Bartonella? Is there any success stories people have shared on this site?

I know Dr. J. is curing people (as in remission), I don't know which ones had Bartonella. I have read a few stories of people in remission and I know someone who is coming to the end of their treatment with him. There are success stories shared on this site - we have a thread on it - but the names of the LLMD's aren't usually mentioned...

Seriously, though...do you really think he'd continue a practice for 5 + years if he wasn't getting any success...and other LLMD's are?
