Recent hospital visit

It's taken me a few weeks for me to be able to talk about this. I don't know why anything about this experience would surprise me, but I can't help but to wish for a miracle.

The Thursday before Christmas I passed out and hit the floor hard. My sister was here at the time, called an ambulance, and off I went to the hospital. Upon arrival, they asked me about my medical history, allergies, and prescriptions.

I mentioned NO steroids. When they asked why...I told them LYME. She asked me if I had ever been treated, I said yes, then she said, you don't have it anymore. What you may have are lingering symptoms. Ok..Sure....😐

I was hooked up to monitors and watched my blood pressure and pulse rate fluctuating wildly. They hooked me up to saline, did an EKG, chest x-ray, blood work, ultrasound which came back normal, but admitted me because they didn't know if I had a seizure.

Upon admission I gave my medication list. At that time I was on malarone, low dose Naltrexone, naturethroid, gabapentin, and my ambien.

The first night the nurse came in to give me gabapentin. I asked them for ambien. They said NO. They would come in and check on me for the usual checks and I was sitting there wide awake. She said, sorry, no ambien. Wonder if they know that sudden stopping of Ambien can cause seizures?

The next morning they brought me some generic form of a thyroid pill. Wonder if they know thyroid pills shouldn't be substituted? My husband had to get permission to bring it in so I could take my own personal prescription. It was locked up in a locker and given to me 4 hours off schedule. I asked them about malerone for my suspected babesia infection. They told me that med was why I was depressed and probably in there to begin with. Really? No kidding! Does being depressed eliminate my need for an antiparasital drug with a possibility of a parasite spinning in my blood?

I asked them about LDN and they said that it was an experimental drug and they would not give it to me. Forget about the fact that it took me several months of uninterrupted taking to build up to that dosage.

The only they were willing to give me was my Gabapentin.

After sitting wide awake for the first night, I had my husband bring the prescriptions in. I took the ambien and got to sleep.

The next day was scheduled testing, followed by a very condensending doctor tell me there was nothing they could find, that I was depressed and a mental health doctor would be in for a visit.

When the shrink showed up, I said to him, if you had Lyme, you would be depressed too. He promptly left the room.

When I was in the hospital for chemo related complications, I was treated with the utmost respect. What a difference a "disease" makes.

You know the old saying..
At least it's not cancer, in many ways since I've been on both sides of the fence, I wish it were 😣

So sorry you were treated like that. It's just not right.

I will never feel safe in a hospital again. They almost killed my elderly father. The medical mishaps that happened - I could write a book.

I believe I have self diagnosed myself with pots. But that's a guess. Thanks for the concern 😘

Yes it was good to know that other than Lyme- possible co's and all the symptoms related to it, I'm as fit as a fiddle lol.

I did read that pots symptoms usually do resolve after treatment. And from what I understand, it's very common to us guys to develop😑

My llmd did tell me to go, but I did stop short of asking her how to handle it. That is a very good point. It will be a cold day in hell before I go back😑 thanks traveler!

Pursiankitty try not to stress I know it is easily said but not done. We Lyme patients need to protect ourselves from stress. I gave up on regular doctors, as they are not familiar with chronic Lyme. I hope you will feel better.

Sitting here today, after reflecting on many things over the recent months, I realized that there is nothing we can do to change the hearts, thoughts and words of others. We have to be in charge of our own thoughts and reactions. As we are in our current state, anger and over-reaction come easily. And who suffers through all this? We do.

I'm sure that the professionals who were in charge of my care, never gave me a second thought. But here I am rehashing it over and over in my mind, upping my stress and making my head buzz😐,

Anyway, point I am trying to make is....Yes, I felt slighted and snubbed, but going into that situation .... I got what I expected....(Well, the medication thing surprised me....) Why would I be hurt by this? I learned for the last and FINAL time, I will not be hurt or hindered in my healing from one more medical person who does not understand what is happening within my body.

I must heal and harboring all these things I cannot do anything about does nothing short of keeping me from my goal of getting well.

I am not sorry I started this post,as it certainly had its purpose and it made it clear to me that I'm not alone in my struggles. Most importantly, it showed the support of the wonderful, like-minded sweet souls on this board who take the time, in spite of most feeling very poorly, to post words of support.
