Japanese knotweed dosage

I have just received some Japanese knotweed powder from Bristol Botanicals. It says concentrated powder 5:1. I'm new to these herbs. Any suggestions on how much I should take a day?

I found this on the Buhner Healing Lyme website:
1. Japanese knotweed root (Polygonum cuspidatum)
• Powder: 1 tsp – 1 TBS of the root powder 3x daily. Start at the lower dose and work up


I don't know if it's 5:1 like the Bristol Botanicals...though.

I think the key is to start low...and slowly increase. I would start lower than 1 tsp 3X day.
...start with once a day - and maybe 1/4 tsp ?


Hopefully someone who is more knowledgable with the powder form (I took tinctures) will post.

I'm also not sure about the 5:1 part. Maybe I'll start with a tiny amount ...

I would not start at 1 tsp if it's concentrated. 1 tsp of regular powder is quite strong to me. You should figure out what the ratio refers to. Usually it's menstruum to herb for a tincture. But for powder... resveratrol to herb? Or was a full extract done and then infused back on to it? I really hate when companies do this without a clear conversion label. It's just asking for trouble

However they did it, the 5:1 implies that 1 tsp of their powder is equal to 5 tsps of other 'regular' versions, so do be sure to start off on a very low dose to see how you handle it.

But I agree with Psil - it's irritating!

Thanks! So it's pretty strong. I just took about a quarter of a teaspoon. I'll start with that and work up.

Be sure you are detoxing well and watch for herxing. Let us know how you do with it!
