Talk about being torn on how to feel! LOL! Yep, I've joined the world with catching a cold. I'm both thrilled and upset that I have an immune response to the virus!! LOL!

Although, I do have to say that when I realized that I did actually have symptoms of a head cold, I chose to ramp up on a few things, and the symptoms are not so bad today. I increased my dosage of Immune shield Gold
(For those that want to see what this is: /sunwarrior.com/store/product/immune-shield) and my dose of Ionic silver (again, in case someone is interested: www.silver100.com/) and increased my vitamin C dosage as well.

Yesterday, my throat hurt and was very itchy, sinuses were filling and running (how is this even possible - do we have a spigot in there?) and body aches. Today, the body aches are still there, but lowered and my sinus pressure is definitely decreased, my throat is a little sore, but not itchy, and my sinuses are doing much, much better (Whew!!).

This actually came as a surprise to me! LOL! I wasn't sure that it would work, but thought I'd put it to the test. My step son came up on Sunday, and brought his cold with him - we said it was okay, because he's leaving the state for a while, so would would have missed the opportunity to see him before he left. We normally make family members that have symptoms wait until symptoms are clear before coming to see us, since we both have health issues.

I've been tempted to go out in the real world and attempt getting sick.. But I wouldn't know how to tell the difference between sick symptoms and a herx, so I guess I'll skip it

LOL! Yeah, I wouldn't suggest doing that! It's definitely no fun having these symptoms on top of everything else!

We had colds and strep go through our house with my kids and in a weird way I was kind of hopeful that I would get a cold so I would know my immune system is working. No such luck.

It's horrible to 'wish' for symptoms! But I fully understand. At least we are spared the symptoms when we are so ill and covered up with other symptoms though.

LOL! There are very few ways that I'm "normal", 3HumpedCamel!! But thank you!! smilewinkgrin It is nice to know that my immune function is returning! Even if I do have a few days of the sore throat and such!

Just forgive me if my posts don't make sense!! LOL! I am having more brain fog because of this!

Same here!! This is only the head cold version, and while unpleasant, particularly on top of my other symptoms, it's not all that bad - except for the additional brain fog - I could have done with less of that!!! LOL!

Yay - congrats on your cold!

I think I caught my first one in over 4 years - a few weeks ago...I had a slightly sore throat and sneezed for a few days...

I'm hoping it 'means something'......lol

Oh, yah the cold was a piece of cake compared to my lyme/bart symptoms...

This thread makes me smile. Not because you're sick, Traveler...but because you're sick. It means your body is seeing something other than Lyme as a threat. And that's pretty cool. Rest up.

I don't know if it's because of having COPD or what, but I still get upper respiratory infections. Last Winter it worked into a bad case of Bronchitis, and the Doc gave me two shots and had me use their nebulizer.

You know, I came down with something for a period of 3 days a couple weeks ago, and felt similarly. Is it a good thing, a bad thing? Could it be a "normal" illness, or just something arising from my Lyme/co picture?

Plus, it's the second time that it's happened in the past six months. Though, the first occurrence, it only lasted about 24 hours.

Had the sore throat, congestion, fatigue. No fever.

I shouldn't have (kinda wonder if I should have just let my immune system experience it), but I ended up taking some OTC medicines the first day. I had to get some sleep for the following day.

Anyway, we'll take it as a good sign, Trav.

that's great news Traveler! if you need advice on what else to take, lmk - I beat a really aweful cold/sickness right after Christmas.

question - when we are sick with lyme and don't get regular sick, what happens to all of the viruses that enter our bodies???

LOL! Thank you all - I think! LOL! It's hard to get excited about feeling icky!!! LOL!

This is the first time since I healed the first time, that I have caught a cold from someone so quickly - so I DO take it as a good sign! I started showing symptoms the day after I came into contact with my stepson - who was coughing and hacking.

July, I used to get bronchitis twice a year before I had my first successful treatment - every time the ragweed bloomed - and the stupid stuff blooms twice a year on my road!!! I know, people look at me weird every time I explain this - but I swear it's the same plant. It's been a long time since a cold turned into bronchitis on me, so hoping that it doesn't happen, because that would be bad news - as in my body couldn't control the cold and it turned into a secondary infection.

Antonio - these symptoms are not part of my normal symptom picture, and they only came up after being around a person with the same symptoms - so fingers crossed!! LOL!

Chapelle - from what I understand, the virus runs it's course anyway and dies out after so many days, unless it turns into a secondary infection due to the immune system not being able to deal with it. Previously, when I got a cold, it always turned into a sinus infection - even with the use of OTC products- so I'm still waiting on that. Again, fingers crossed that this will be able to work itself out without a secondary infection!

AKsorewalrus - As others have said, catching a normal cold is an indicator that the immune system is at least trying to get back to normal. The main thing I have done this time around for treatments so far has been to work on boosting my immune system and starting to tackle viruses (but not necessarily a cold virus! LOL!), so this may be evidence that my immune system is coming back. smile Which means my treatment choices are doing what they need to be!! turn

Because I am chronically ill, and my hubby is disabled, we do our best to avoid "sick people" - we even tell our kids and grandkids to not come up if they have anything other than allergies!! But, this time, my step son was leaving the state, and if we wanted to see him before he left, we had to see him while he was sick. It was a good thought, and so far I'm the only one that's sick - and one dog! LOL! But the dog is already over it. smile

Again, thank you all!! I've got high hopes!! LOL!

Well, my understanding is that when the immune system is too low, we won't produce the common symptoms of a cold - runny nose, congestion, cough. We may have a sore throat, or not feel well, but we won't exhibit the majority of symptoms because our immune system isn't capable of responding that well because it's too low/being suppressed too much.

So, when we do finally show those symptoms, it means that the immune function is now high enough to produce those symptoms in fighting off the virus.

Some people with Lyme don't have their immune function lowered this much and they do produce the symptoms of something like the common cold virus any time they come in contact with it though.
