Lyme sexually transmitted

Hello i was reading an article on how they tested the partners of Lyme patience who had un protected and they Cameron back positive both vaginal secresions and semen any one hace any imput on this

You will find many differences of opinion on this. Best advice is do your own research and come to your own conclusion.

Yep. I am one who believes 100% that it can be acquired in this manner.

More than likely. A plethora of bacteria can be transferred this way. From innocuous bacteria to harmful bacteria. Syphillis, a spirochete cousin, can. So why wouldn't borrelia. What makes borrelia so different from the countless bacteria that can be transferred this way?

I don't see any reason.

Bacteria live in your mouth/saliva and can be transferred this way. Bacteria like salmonella live on your kitchen counter. Borrelia is simply bacteria too. I think Lyme is way more transferable than what is understood. Why would Borrelia act differently?

I'm curious now... Does anyone believe it could be transferred sexually, even using protection? (Skin contact/saliva/etc.). I ask as I seem to recall taking to a guy in the UK that swears that's how he got it.

So much can be transferred through human interaction, both the intimate to non-intimate variety.

You can get herpes 1 from kissing someone, or sharing a cup. Fungus lives on our skin and that can passed through contact. Colds and flu's through the air. Mycoplasma (walking pneumonia) is air borne and also a lyme co-infection.

There's so many things. And it's transferred all the time. But most times these pathogens cause mild illness or short term illness, or no feelings of illness.

So the question is what makes long term lyme "sufferers" (or chronic lyme sufferers), different (even then those with asymptomatic lyme) ? That's the real medical/scientific question that needs to be answered.

The world is filled with pathogens (everywhere and all the time). You can't live in a bubble. Good hygiene and safe sex. Can't really do much else.

"In the study, researchers tested semen samples and vaginal secretions from three groups of people: control subjects without evidence of Lyme disease, individual patients who tested positive for Lyme disease, and couples engaging in unprotected sex who tested positive for the disease.

As expected, all of the control subjects tested negative for Borrelia burgdorferi in cultures of semen samples or vaginal secretions. In contrast, twelve of thirteen patients with Lyme disease had positive cultures for Borrelia burgdorferi in their genital secretions. Furthermore, two of the couples with Lyme disease showed identical strains of the Lyme spirochete in their semen and vaginal secretions, while a third couple showed identical strains of a related Borrelia spirochete in their genital secretions.

“The presence of live spirochetes in genital secretions and identical strains in sexually active couples strongly suggests that sexual transmission of Lyme disease occurs,” said Dr. Mayne, who recently published the first comprehensive study of Lyme disease in Australia. “We need to do more research to determine the risk of sexual transmission of this syphilis-like organism.”

Dr. Stricker pointed to the implications for Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment raised by the study. “We have taken Lyme disease out of the woods and into the bedroom,” he said. “We need to start fighting this runaway epidemic just like HIV/AIDS.”"

The other thing you can try is changing the search engine you are using - instead of searching through Google, try Yahoo search, or Bing, or Explorer.

Google scholar is another really good place to go for searching for scientific articles, but you will get a lot better results if you use the scientific terms - ie - Borrelia instead of Lyme. /scholar.google.com/
