It's been such a long 5 years since my mystery seizures began. An even longer 13 months since my debilitating mystery illness took control of my life.

After an emotionally crushing visit to my family doctor where he told me Lyme could not exist in my brain because I would have such bad encephalopathy I would be hospitalized, I hesitantly reached out to ILADS. Thinking I would most certainly have to travel to the US (I'm Canadian) to even be diagnosed. I spent a couple weeks thinking, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's not Lyme. Maybe the "professionals" that I've entrusted my health in are right.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from ILADS - there's a Lyme literate Naturopathic Doctor - IN MY CITY - A 10 MINUTE WALK FROM MY HOUSE!!

Today was my first appointment and I came out feeling as if 100lb weight was lifted off me. I have most symptoms for Lyme, babesia and bartonella. On February 28th, my ND will draw AND SHIP my blood to Igenex. He assumes it will come back negative, but still may as well get it out of the way.

This is only the beginning. It's still looking like, for abx treatment I will have to travel about 5 hours, over the border, and pay out of pocket to be adequately treated, which as a Canadian, infuriates me BUT I feel like I won today. I finally found a medical practitioner who doesn't think I'm crazy. Who understands my weird long list of symptoms and who was truly compassionate and empathetic towards me. Not to mention he was dreamy, but they may just be from years of doctors waiving me off.

I am having great success with a candida friendly diet and after a 30 day stint with a UTI leading to PID, I am starting to feel much more optimistic.

It sounds like you are on your way to getting well! The financial aspect of all of this is maddening, even for us Americans. I have insurance, and pretty good insurance at that, and it still won't cover treatment because our government won't admit that Chronic Lyme exists.

Congrats. It's always great finding a doctor who you like. Hard enough to find one you can tolerate, but dreamy...? Sounds like you struck gold ;) As for traveling over the border, is your doc sold on abx? There are some good herbal protocols as well by Stephen Buhner that help a lot of people out. Some more so than abx but everyones different. Just thought i'd mention since a 5 hour drive, especially when you're in the worst of it, can be difficult to manage. But do what works for you. Just want you to know abx aren't the only option or necessarily even the best

Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear that you found a doctor!! It's amazing when we finally see a doctor that believes us!

Psilo - no, not sold on abx, but did mention it may not be possible to achieve remission without them, so to be prepared. Personally I want to try a completely hollistic approach first rather than deplete myself and then try it if abx fail. I see a neurologist (been on a wait list for over a year) on Friday and my LLND said that she may not dismiss Lyme as quick as my GP. I know there will be many more speed bumps and this is the beginning of an insanely long journey, but my positivity has been restored smile

Well just so you know we have members here who have achieved remission without them smile Of course everyones different and responds better to different things. I think starting holistic is a great idea though. My philosophy is that the things that do the least damage should be the first steps. Food, environment, lifestyle, tonic herbs -> heavy duty herbs -> abx

Good news, I wonder if the dr over the border is the dr i see. She treats tons of canadiens. She very knowledgeable and studied under Dr. Horowitz. He treated her when she got lyme and co's. I was seeing another dr for 6 months and had only made small gains, less than a month with the new dr and I have made more gains than I did in 6 months. I started my journey with neurologist and i could go back I would never have seen him, dx me with small fiber neuropathy,idiopathic but never mind ruling out tick born infections, then MS, then MGUS a flag for blood cancer. I feel that lyme and bartonella caused all of these issues in my body. And Im hoping in time these issues all resolve! Best of luck and keep us posted! Oh yeah my new dr is Dr. M
