Do most people recover from lyme?

No one can track down what all goes on to help or get in the way of our healing - but we do know some of the things we have to do in order to heal.

The immune system functioning must be good (but that's far from all, as like Antonio, I was young and healthy when I was infected, but I was only 7 yrs old at the time - so what went wrong?).

We must support anything in the body that isn't working properly - hormones, thyroid, adrenals, digestive system, nervous system and so on.

Co-infections play a large part in this as well as mold exposure, gene mutations, yeast and fungal infections, parasites, and more. Not everyone has the same issues to deal with though, so we can only get so much help from others.

As for the question about most people recovering, yes, there is a large percentage of people that get appropriate treatments (ILADS or alternative therapies) that heal well and pretty quickly (considering) - and then there are those that are less fortunate, and we take a while to heal.

As Gfields said, this is a marathon, not a sprint. This is one of the most complex bacteria, creating one of the most complex infections known at this time. We are actually ahead of most research, as we don't even have good testing means, much less good protocols that have been researched thoroughly to know that they work well for ___% of people. But, we can't wait for the science to catch up to our needs because of the controversy and lack of funding for any meaningful research to happen. So, we trudge forward, doing our best - and amazingly, many do heal. Having been here for nearly 10 years, I have seen most everyone that was here when I started move on and heal - I stuck around as a Mod, and then I got reinfected, so I'm still here!!! LOL!

Thank you so much! I'm really seeing that I'm not overreacting to this diagnosis. It is definitely downplayed in the majority of what I've seen in the mainstream. I will continue to follow you all in this forum, so thankful for it!

I'm sorry to hear that it has been such a long process, and that reinfection is a possibility. Time to dig in my heels, do as much research as I can, and see this through!

There IS a ton of misinformation about these infection, although we do try here to 'suss them out' and determine what's good information and what's not. We seem to be sticklers for proof that it works (clinical or personal experience), or scientific proof of what's going on, and things like that. So be sure to use our search function, that way a lot of the work of researching will be easier because the articles may already be linked, so all you have to do is read it!

We hit 84 here yesterday - and now we are in a nose dive with our temps -again. That's how it's been all winter. =( Today is still nice, but much cooler. Tomorrow it will be cold here with temps in the 40's. Fortunately, I haven't seen any bees out yet. I think they are smart waiting! LOL!

The thing about co-infections is we often won't test positive for them because the Lyme bacteria lower immune function, and most of the testing is from using antibody tests - which won't work properly when the immune system is not functioning well.

I was one of the lucky few that did heal and healed well with a very inclusive treatment, but when my adrenals crashed and took my thyroid with it, all it took was another tick to attach and I started having symptoms again. So, now I'm with Purple Tulip in treating yet again.

I am not on the forums often these days because I am getting my life back, I'm probably 90% back to what I used to be.

I have full confidence anyone with Lyme can get better when they find the treatment personalized for their body system. The one size did all approach has the slowest healing rate from what I've noticed through others experience.

Don't worry Vanessa, your brain power will come back! The neuro system is the slowest to get back to normal, but it will happen!

Welcome, Just Bee! As others have stated, what we are all faced with is hitting a moving target, in the dark, with lights flashing. Duration of infection, variation of borrellia, variation of co-infections, potency of each of them, strength of the immune system, reaction to therapy....and many other things will determine how fast you recover. 70% of the infected actually recover with the "30 days of doxy". The problem is that the medical profession considers 70% to be the "successful" rate for ALL treatments! The rest of us have to just figure it out on our own. Here is the most important thing to remember: NO ONE IS THE SAME AS ANYONE ELSE! Your successful treatment needs to be tweaked, tailored and adjusted for YOU! You need a dr who will work with you as you take responsibility for your successful treatment. There is a ton to learn. Stick to it.

Old Salty, where did you get the information that "70% of the infected actually recover with the "30 days of doxy"." That number is not accurate - the number of successes (no relapse) is much lower.

Unless I misunderstood what you are saying - which is more than possible. I'm having trouble getting my brain working this morning.
