I have been treating multiple tick-borne infections since 2008. 2 years of antibiotics and babesia treatment. Started on Buhner protocol in 2013. Japanese knotweed was my base herb over the last 4 years. Have done very well and basically am at 80% of my pre-infection health. I was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer and thankfully caught early. I have come to find out the JK has estrogen like properties that can cause cancer in estrogen sensitive tissues (ie Uterus). I am looking for a new systemic herb to replace Japanese Knotweed. Stephania Tetandra has been suggested by Buhner. Anyone have experience using this as the main systemic anitmicrobial?

Oh Jen, I am so very sorry for your cancer diagnosis. And lyme on top of that - not fair!!

I have not tried stephania tetandra. I think one of our members, Huddie has tried it. I hope she sees this.

Hi Jen. I want to welcome you to the forum and express my support and well wishes for all you've been through.

I will be watching the responses you get closely because of your experience with JK. I just started it late last year and have been quite happy with it's help on my random pain areas. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Just for clarification, my Oncologist was very shocked that I presented with this cancer because I do not have any of the risk factors for this particular cancer. That is the reason that I am suspicious of the JK and based on the reports that I have read online.

Yes, I got that feeling from you. Somehow so far I have missed those reports but will be looking into what I can find. I try to check out issues like that before I go gangbusters on something.

Many of us do. Its not something we want to bring on ourselves if we can avoid it.

Welcome to our community! I'm so glad you found us.

I have read the same thing about JK and have been concerned about this for others. I have read in Buhner's book that Stephania tetrandra is the herb to substitute.

Do you have Buhner's "Healing Lyme" 2nd edition? If not, I would encourage you to buy it, as he goes into detail about the herb and it's actions (pages 379 - 381).

And an interesting thing is that he mentions on page 379: "And finally the herbs (Stephania species) have been found to potentiate the actions of antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals in the treatment of cancers and various diseases such as malaria."

JenBev - welcome to the community. Anti-bacterial herbs that I've used other than JK are cats claw, houttuynia, allicin, sida acuta, and teasel. For lyme - cats claw is specific to that.
