Dr. L. in NY and Dr. DeS. in NJ use azithromycin for Bartonella. I certainly had a wicked Bartonella herx (neuropsychiatric symptom flare) on it.
Dr. DeS. in NJ and many other LLMDs use Doxycycline for Lyme since it tends to be well–tolerated and the patient begins feeling better almost immediately. That's because it forces borrelia into cyst form. So...
I doubt if azithromycin is enough for bartonella.
(Rifampin paired with another antibiotic is the more commonly prescribed bart treatment)
Flouroquinolones are effective for bart...but black box warning is why we choose rifampin.
