Brucellosis vs Lyme

I recently tested CDC negative for lyme. Showing bands IgM 23, IgG 41, IgG 45, IgG 66. My doctor still won't admit it is Lyme and is sending me out to a Reumatologist. I'm looking into an LLMD however I am doing all of this through the VA Hospital and am giving them a chance to do their thing.

Here's my question: Does anyone have any experience with Brucellosis or Lyme and brucellosis coinfections?

I was reading that it can also react to Western Blot bands p23 and p66. Is this something to question further with a doctor in order to receive more blood testing.

Neurobrucellosis has eerily similar symptoms as lyme.

Where would I get brucellosis?...well within the last 2 years the VA has recognized that veterans are picking it up in Afghanistan.

I have history of both tick exposure and exposure to under cooked meats and dairy ( I ate A LOT of local food)> So I guess I could have or have had both.

How do I present this to my doctor intelligently?

Sorry I don't know anything about the Brucellosis showing up as bands 23 and 66 on the Lyme WB.

It has been mentioned on this forum before. You could do a search on this forum - in the search bar type: Brucellosis and see what comes up.

From what I remember - it can be treated with medications used to treat Bartonella (co-infection of lyme)

But, what I'm thinking is you have Lyme disease - with showing band 23 positive. Is there a reason why you don't think you have Lyme disease?

I doubt that the VA will treat you appropriately , even if they do recognize it. You may only get a few weeks of abx.

There is not a reason why i don't think i have lyme...I'm certain I have it. After 6 years of being told I'm crazy It's more of me wanting to tell the VA to shove it up their tale pipe. smile They are giving veterans bad press and making us look like victims smile

They have admitted that Veterans who test positive for Brucella and were in Afghanistan "likely" got it in Afghanistan. Yet they really don't do diagnostic testing for it...unless you know what you are talking about as a patient.

I work as a Veterans Representative for the state I live in and I see SO many vets with the same symptoms all of you and I have. Yet they are doomed to a life of misery, because they are told they have anxiety and PTSD. Most army and marine vets have had multiple tick bites while in service and the Afghanistan Vets are admittedly exposed to malaria and brucella daily.

So far my doctor has been reluctant to order any more test even though my lyme titer was elevated and I showed specific band markers.

Bringing up brucella to the VA is a way to force them to get the full run of blood tests and maybe make at least one more doctor a little more aware that this stuff exists.

The VA will not treat it properly. I know, but for me to fight the system....I have to know the system. You all are great! Thank You

It definitely wouldn't hurt to test for brucella. I came up IGM positive but they then run a second confirmation test called an agglutination test which I was negative. My doc wants to retest soon. He said other intracellular infections can sometimes cause a false positive result. Lyme is intracellular as is Bartonella, etc.
