light sensitivity, will transition lenses help?

For the last couple years I have noticed that I always need the sun visor in the car, even on cloudy days. The computer screen is intolerable at times as well as reading.

I am now realizing that I have to keep my blinds closed if I want to read or watch television. This includes cloudy days. The cloudy days I don't mind closing my blinds but I miss the sunshine, lol!

Does anyone know if transition lenses would help this or is it a waste of my "herb money".

I appreciate any input.

I am taking Kudzu, JK, Motherwort to help. Haven't noticed a difference yet. Hawthorne didn't seem to make a difference at all. Any other herbs that could help?

Hi Denikeef. You could always try out the transition lenses and see if they help. If not, you can always return them.

Bilberry extract is great for the eyes.

Lutein is what I take for my eyes as recommended by my retinologist.

I have those transition lenses on my "cool" sunglasses, but they just aren't dark enough for a sunny day. I love them for night driving so the halogen lights don't blind me. But I use my wrap around sunglasses all the time.

Well, not in the house, but all the rest of the time.

I really suggest wrap arounds so no sunlight comes in if you are that sensitive.

At my eye doctor I tried on different shades of sunglasses right there in his office. I went outside to see if I like the blue or the brown tinge. Maybe you can do this with the transition ones at your docs office or even at Costco???

Hi Denikeef. I am having the same light sensitivties that you are experiencing. I am hoping treatment will help with this issue. I'm curious, too, to see if there is a herb that will help us.

Thank you everyone,

These are all great suggestions. For me the Bilberry and Stephania did not help with the light sensitivity. I am hoping the glasses will help until I go into remission from this disease at which time I am hoping most of my symptoms will be gone.

Peteza, are the wraparounds prescription strength? This is off subject but I know you are in remission. Do you have any remaining symptoms?

Summer16, I hope that you will find an answer also!

krimpet, thanks for the suggestion of trying them out. I hadn't thought about the fact that I could return them if they don't work. They are very expensive and that would ease my mind.

I have that same light sensitivity - particularly when it's just the 'right amount' of clouds, so that more UV rays are allowed through that bother my eyes (I always forget which one that is).

While I do take lutien, my eyes usually stay fairly sensitive until I'm healed, if last time was any indicator. The transition lenses were great, but they never got dark enough for me. I was snowing to beat the band yesterday, and I had to pull out my sunglasses - and I wasn't even the one driving!

I would suggest that you try out things like just dark sunglasses for when you go out, get apps for your computers (phones too if needed) to cut down on the blue light that's emitted. They are simply called blue light filters. And, unfortunately, I have no suggestions for those beautiful sunny days - I have to keep my curtains pulled too. =( I wait until the sun is no longer shining brightly through them, and open them gradually.

Cloudy days are the worst! I have to use my sunglasses. Having good light around the computer and the TV room helps me with that glare, but sometimes I wear my sunglasses for the computer or I get flashing white lights.

For driving, keeping the visor down and wearing the sunglasses is usually enough for me.

I'm hoping this goes away with treatment.

In remission and it is gone - this light sensitivity. Super good news!! I assume it will go away for all of you also.

Denikeef, I have prescription wrap around sunglasses. I got mine from my eye doc. I think if have the blue light stuff on mine and the UV. I love them.

The transitions lenses help me outside. They do not work in the car or the house. The car windshields filter just enough uv light to keep them from changing so I wear different sunglasses for driving.

I tried transitions lenses once and hated them. They were useless in the car, which is when I really wanted them to work. When I went outside, they took a while to darken, so my eyes had to adjust to the brightness and then readjust to the shade. They seemed to take forever to lighten when I went indoors, which was really maddening. I am much happier using a good sun hat with UV protection.

Reading everyone's comments make me even more frustrated with my LLMD. He said he never heard of light sensitivity with Lyme or coinfections. He claims he's been doing this for over 30 years so it seems like this would have come up before.

I appreciate everyone's comments as I suffer from this as well. I have to wear sunglasses in the house especially during this time of year. We live on a lake and the sun reflects off the ice and it's so bright I can't stand it.
