If I got a bulls-eye rash I'd seek out 2-3 weeks of antibiotics.

If I had no symptoms after that I'd cease treatment.

I would treat until it subsided. Burrascano says minimum 6 weeks

What if you were bitten a really long time ago and had a bulls eye rash -- is there any point in doing anything now if you don't have symptoms?

Re girlie: Ya I guess that wouldn't be a bad idea.

I've never had one of those rashes so I had no idea those rashes could stick around that long, I always thought it was gone in 3-4 days....my bad :p

Knowing what I know now - about the length of treatment when it's disseminated...6 weeks...or even 8 weeks is nothing, really...compared to many, many months to years...

Problem is...we don't know that...and the Dr.'s don't either...or just have their heads in the sand...
..so we accept a couple weeks of treatment.

it's the 'If I knew then...what I know now'

If I could turn back time...lol

I think I know the answer, but I want to see what everyone says. Can you get a rash if you have NOT been bitten, but instead were infected through other transmission (in utero, body fluids, etc.)?

That one I don't know.

I read that the bulls-eye rash is a skin infection from the bacteria...so not sure..

Hopefully others' with that knowledge will come on to post.

Sorry for the reason you're here but glad you found us.

You've been given great information already and I can only add some book recommendations.

While I agree that Buhner's books are awesome, I know I couldn't retain much of them in my early days of Lyme.

It was only this past January that Dr. Bill Rawls released "Unlocking Lyme".

Dr. Rawls is an OB/GYN and fellow Lymie......and healed himself by following Buhner's herbal protocols and making lifestyle changes.

I cannot recommend his book enough. I wish it was around when I first started treatment.

Anyway, here's a link to an article on his site that gives a basic summary of what's going on in the body when we're infected....and what needs to happen to heal:

Dr. Rawls goes into much more detail in his book. It's an easy read and he really makes sense.

I'd say no.

There are countless people walking around with asymptomatic infections. The CDC even mentions this on their website:

"Although many people who are infected with Babesia do not have symptoms, for those who do effective treatment is available."

www.cdc.gov/bartonella/clinicians/index.html

"Most cases of cat scratch disease (CSD) resolve without treatment, although some patients may develop complications from disseminated disease."

(Cat scratch disease is the henselae strain of Bartonella which is a common coinfection to Lyme)
