If you are supposed to avoid calcium, iron and magnesium And dairy....?

I had no idea I was supposed to avoid those things when I was on doxy. No wonder I had such a horrible time.

My script said to avoid the sun and my internist told me not to read the protocol printout he gave me.

He thought I would get scared or something.

Just found this

Do not take an antacid that has aluminum, calcium, or magnesium in it; bi****h subsalicylate; iron; zinc; or multivitamins with minerals within 2 hours before or 2 hours after you take doxycycline tablets. Do not eat or drink dairy products within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take doxycycline tablets.

Found something similar also:
be aware that antacids, calcium supplements, iron products, and laxatives containing magnesium interfere with doxycycline, making it less effective. Take doxycycline 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids (including sodium bicarbonate), calcium supplements, and laxatives containing magnesium. Take doxycycline 2 hours before or 3 hours after iron preparations and vitamin products that contain iron.

Also, I drink bottled water right now because we are staying at my moms and she doesn't have a filter. So my water has minerals in it added calcium and magnesium…

I was wondering! What is wrong with the curse word block that it can't count letters? B I s m u t h has 2 too many!

You know what, maybe that warning is why I quit taking my calcium mag. supplement back then. But I cannot imagine me going with out dairy for 3 months.

Oh well, it was mono treatment anyway, and doomed to fail this long time infection.

Is it only cow dairy to avoid around doxy or all dairy? I was planning on taking it with my smoothie which has coconut milk.

Coconut milk isn't a dairy product at all. Dairy is from animal, technically. You're safe with that one.

I also found some cheese made from goats milk, but I guess I can avoid that for now. The worse thing for me with the restricted diet is my sweet tooth. I love chocolate!!

Drugs.com says to at least take them more than 2 hours before or after Doxy if you have to take them.

If you don't have to is the important part, probably.

From what I understand, it's not that we will have adverse side effects from consuming it too closely with foods/supplements containing calcium, iron, magnesium but that it is not as easily absorbed into the blood stream when taken with foods containing calcium, iron, magnesium.

I could be wrong. I just started Doxy last Friday. So far so good. I just try to make sure I take it atleast an hour before I plan on eating much...and if I take it, I wait about 2 hours to eat very much. I've just been drinking a lot of water with it, atleast a glass.

Anyone else have any tips on how they take it?

Doxy can be hard on the stomach - and some people need to eat something with it. I did.

You may not absorb as much but we don't want to hurt our stomachs.
But don't take with dairy.
