Hi All
I would appreciate your feedback on a possible case of unconfirmed lyme contracted 40 years ago. In 1977 I developed a rash after a tick bite (of which I have had at least 30 over the years) while residing in southern Germany. This was followed by multiple cases of "summer flu" for the next few years. I was doing rather well until becoming poorly in 2007 and being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was again stationed in Germany at the time and had had further tick bites with no rash.
My health has deteriorated since and my new NHS (UK healthcare) rheumatologist thought that this may be lyme disease without seeing my medical notes (which, mistakingly, hadn't been forwarded). For years I have been trying to discuss the possibility of lyme with multiple health professions, but they did not seem very knowledgable (lyme is quite are in the UK) and two tests, last year, have come back negative.
I suffer from:
- very bad and consistant pain in my extremities, muscular and bursitis-type pain, starting around 04:00pm to 02:00am (funny thing with time)
- occasional inflammation of sac around heart
- numbness for five years) in large patch on one upper thigh and this seems to be slowly affecting other leg
- tingling in hands and feet
- fatigue attacks and low energy levels, memory problems
Taking amoxicillin for unrelated UTI (I am 57 year-old male and have had UTI problems from childhood) makes feel completely symptom-free for five to six days before falling back to prior state of feeling unwell. I have repeated this twice with the same results.
I therefore know that life could be a lot better and that my condition is treatable. The question is whether this could be lyme after all and how I can get our local healthcare system to agree treatment.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
