Hello!

Does anyone know if slow growth is a symptom of Lyme/coinfections? I'm having my 20-month-old tested through Igenex soon, but he's been 8% height on the growth chart (as high as 20% at birth, as low as 4% height at 12 mos old). I'm slightly above average height and my husband is average, so it just strikes me as odd.

(I know just about anything can be a symptom.)

He also is a slow talker (mostly grunts and points, though does try to talk), has had a few febrile seizures and is spitty. Not sure that any of these symptoms on their own are of concern and they don't seem to be the "classic" Lyme symptoms, so I'm just left wondering. If anyone has thoughts or experience with this, would love to hear. Thank you!

Welcome to our community (officially!). You have emailed me already about another matter, and I've already told you some information, like how reading through our "new to Lyme" thread.

I would encourage you to read through this site for some good information on what to look for in kids. They can often have different symptoms than older kids and adults(although I've had some of those same symptoms myself): /sites.google.com/site/drjoneskids/home

I don't know anything specific about slow growth, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I believe slow speech could definitely be a symptom. My son had congenital Lyme. He wasn't diagnosed until he was almost 3, when his symptoms really took off. Before then, he was really ahead of the curve with his vocabulary, but then his progress slowed dramatically and even began to regress. I strongly suspect that if he hadn't been treated, he would be nonverbal by now.

1000Daisies - I really don't know for sure. At two months post partum, I came down with mysterious symptoms out of the blue - peripheral neuropathy, twitching, light sensitivity, migrating joint pain. I also nursed him during that time until he was 10 months old. I had a known tick bite when he was 10 months old, which is what tipped me off to Lyme (and made me wonder if I somehow already had it) and that's when I stopped nursing.

Currently, I just have the symptoms I mentioned to go off of. Thanks for sharing your experience and for the information on Advanced Labs - I might have to check that out!

Nosila - So glad to hear your son is doing well. What were his other symptoms? Did you do any testing, or just go based off of the symptoms? Also, was your pediatrician supportive of the treatment?

My son was diagnosed clinically and with applied kinesiology. My LLMD didn't think it necessary to run blood tests on such a little guy. I didn't think our pediatrician would have been supportive, so I never brought it up with him. His treatment was all herbal, so I didn't feel like the pediatrician absolutely needed to know about it. I know that's not ideal, but I don't know of any doctors in our town who are open to natural medicine.
