My eye is twitching! Do I have lyme?

My right eyelid has been twitching for about a month and I'm real worried that I may have lyme disease. I haven't been bitten by a tick in over 20 years, but knowing that symptoms may lay dormant for years, I'm worried that that might be what's causing the eye twitch. I'm definitely going to get tested for the disease but I really would like some first hand accounts of people who suffer from lyme. Thank you and may God bless you.

Yes, Lyme can lie dormant for a long time and yes, neurological symptoms like twitching muscles can be one of the common lyme symptoms, and yes, if you have exposure and other suspicions you might feel better getting tested.

But no, I wouldn't say that one symptom like eye twitching should make you suspicious of Lyme.

The testing can be 50% inaccurate so it's important to work with a Lyme specialist to help you prepare for testing and help interpret the results, or you can share with us here. But most Lyme specialists will be comfortable diagnosing people based on a clinical presentation of Lyme symptoms, which would involve much more than just an eye twitch.

Do you have any other symptoms? It sounds to me like that is the only symptom you got and you are complaining about nothing else.

Keep in mind lots of things can cause eyelid twitching. I know exactly what you mean as I have had that before, and I also had that happen long before Lyme or bartonella and it cleared on it's own. It went on for like a month or so for me. Looking back at it, my own theory is it was a bacteria.

Actually you know sometimes it is infection related but related to other bacteria but then our immune system just cleans it up. Or it could be a virus... but who knows right? Remember I'm not a doctor but my bet is it is microbe related but not Lyme if that is your only symptom.

That was one of my first outward symptoms ..then i couldnt turn a screwdriver with the same coordination. .(.2 yrs ago after high stress)
consider the dna connexions test if you need confirmation ...regular docs let me suffer bad nerve damage ...it was lyme or bartonella
i saw the spirochetes under microscope after id doc told me it was a false positive test result and wait for als and death

I hope the same fate awaits that guy. No mercy for the merciless and willfully ignorant. That hippocratic oath to "do no harm" wasn't just a drinking chant.

You could also be deficient in magnesium. Very common. Try supplementing with oral or topical and see if it goes away.

Hi Worried about Lyme and I just want to say welcome.
If you haven't already new members are encouraged to read the top post called "New to Lyme' It has so much great information.

I also did have eye twitching before I knew I had Lyme. An eye doctor ruled out any other eye issues. So it would be a good idea to have your eyes checked just to be sure.
For me I do believe it was a symptom of Lyme.

You also could reduce caffeine, alcohol and stress(if you use them or have lots of stress) to see if that helps eye twitch. That's what the eye MD suggested when I didn't know I had Lyme yet.

You also might want to seek out an llmd(Lyme literate MD) if so you can re post and put seeking llmd in your area.

I t's good you are going to seek testing for Lyme but just be aware testing isn't always accurate. I tested negative but was clinically diagnosed.

Worried, if you are concerned you should be tested. Most regular labs are not going to test as specifically as lyme labs.

The lyme labs that most recommend are

Igenex
DNA Connexions
Advanced Laboratory Services Inc.

I sure hope it is not lyme.

I have the eye twitching and it is directly tied to my Lyme. I know this b/c I am taking an herb for the eyes and when I don't take it, my eyes start to twitch again. If I were you, I'd go ahead and do the IgeneX testing just to have some type of direction. Good luck!
