I am actually new to this forum looking for something completely different but your post caught my attention. I have been helping to cure my husbands lyme since 15 months and we have successfully come to the other side.

Unlike most of the advice others are giving, we were only successful with the herbal anti-viral route. The antibiotics made it way worse. If he is having neurological symptoms then it is a viral infection, not bacterial. For example, my husband had babesia initially, but after it was gone the neurological conditions were still present. All blood labs confirmed he did not have lyme or any possible co-infection.

We were in the U.S. and Germany testing at the worlds best Lyme labs and he was cleared of any possible co-infection. Yet magically still feeling absolutely terrible.

I then learned that lyme, specifically if you have neurological symptoms; brain fog, extreme fatigue, emotional disturbances, etc the list is long you are dealing with a virus. This is usually a dormant virus that has been activated from the bacterial bites/infections we like to call lyme. The state of a weakened immune system allows for this virus to take hold.

So we worked with a practitioner for a monthly rotation of herbal anti virals and followed a strict diet.

Your fathers ALS would be no different from the viral side. But more complicated because like with all viral sicknesses they are exacerbated by any other issues in the body mostly metals (mercury, aluminum, lead, etc etc)

Seeing as we only had success with the non-antibiotic path, I am only sharing with you our story. There are many roads to healing.

But, if I may push this alternative view over the ledge, I encourage you to listen to the podcasts of Medical Medium, if not for anything else but the correct medical perspective on metals and viruses specifically for Lyme & ALS. There are two separate podcasts that I can confirm from our experience are correct.

I just recently listened to them after my husband was on his path to health and happiness and can say after much money invested and time in solving his issues, this was the most accurate explanation I have yet to stumble upon. I wish I read/listened earlier.

Since you are interested in incorporating various dietary/supplementary measures for the healing of your father, I think you will find much encouragement in the information.

A colleague just sent me Medical Medium's new book - haven't read it yet but looking forward to it - I've heard great things about him. Will look for the pod casts.

I also want to echo Girlie's statements about the testing and the differences between viruses and Lyme & Co. I have a few reactivated/high titers for various viruses and have been on several antivirals (herbal and Rx) for the past few years. I have a long history of them and know very well when they get reactivated and what works for them.

Viral loads can be transmitted along with bacteria from bites and they are OFTEN overlooked by MDs, NDs, and other specialists. The testing is also somewhat inadequate in determining what you're currently fighting, too, but it sometimes helps.

However, I also developed neuroborrelia and have successfully been treating most symptoms away w/ abx. The symptoms are pretty distinct from viral loads - have had 16 yrs going untreated and 4 yrs of treatment to determine what treatments help which conditions…

I think dealing with the viral loads is more critical than dealing with the Lyme & Co infections to start out. The viruses cannot be killed, can only be suppressed and they can quickly overwhelm the system, rendering the immune response very weak. Getting the viral load more manageable before starting Lyme & Co treatment is more beneficial to both.

Carak, and for the rest.. you said after antibiotics your husband was way worse.. For how long he was on antibiotics.. and how long after that he was worse? Can the antibiotics make someone worse? and i am not talking for the first days.. Thanks

George T. - I don't know what antiviosis is - did you mean antibiosis?

Are you asking if you can take mino and doxy together?

No...they are from the same class...both are in the Tetracycline class of antibiotics.

To go with minocycline or doxycycline - you can add a Macrolide. Azithromycin or biaxin.

There are many different combos.

You can do Ceftin (or Omnicef) plus biaxin.

Ceftin (or Omnicef) plus minocycline is another.

You could try minocycline first....and you can always do doxy later on.

You could do mino and biaxin
or mino and azithromycin
or mino and Ceftin. (or Omnicef)

You should also take something for the cyst form of lyme...Flagyl or Tinidazole.
You don't need to take them daily - maybe take them two days a week with the other two.


Do not start all antibiotics at the same time. Start with one...wait a week or two before adding in the second one....and so on.

Mino crosses the blood brain barrier well so that is a good one to take for neurolyme.

Yes, mino and Rifampin is a great combo for bartonella.

The dosage for mino is 100 mg twice daily. Start with that one...and maybe half dose since he has severe symptoms...I wouldn't want to overwhelm his system.

So start with 100 mg once daily....for a few weeks...if he's handling it...then 100 mg twice daily.

After a few weeks on the full dose mino...add in the Rifampin.

The dosage is 300 mg twice daily...or 600 mg once daily. Best on empty stomach.

I would start 300 ONCE daily ...for several weeks...then if okay...300 twice daily.

I did 300 twice daily for over a year...and then my Dr. switched it to 600 once daily...and it hit me hard.

Yes - make sure he is taking probiotics minimum once daily...but twice is better.

I don't know about the Riluzole - is that helping him? (i've read it doesn't do a lot for ALS)

i dont know if rilozole helps but i cant tell him to stop it.. And if this treatment failed? then its better to have a pill for hope at least.. I read some people who start antibiotics for lyme has serious breathing problem.. is this posible? And if yes whats the worst senario with andibiotics?

A worst senario if he starts andibiotics?
