Please correct me - EM Rash

Hi Everybody,

I seem to recall reading on one of the Lyme forums about someone with Lyme disease who was not formally diagnosed until much later on when the EM rash REAPPEARED.

Now, please tell me whether or not you have heard of this. Or, I read an online lyme story, but my mind gimped up the details. Wouldn't be the first time I've become mixed up -- due to my neuroborreliosis.

Reason being, about two months or so ago, I noticed a strange EM-looking rash on the back of my calf, just above the ankle. It was the red ring that struck me when I noticed it. It has a red circular ring on the outside, about the size of a quarter. It has been there for a couple of months or so. It's not getting bigger, but it is getting very slowly less dark. It is only slightly rough. When my husband noticed it -- without my saying anything -- he said, ''Is that a tick bite?" I took 3 pictures of it with my cell phone, but I don't know how to transfer the pics to my computer, and I'm pretty sure my doctor wouldn't for sure either. The only time I ever recall seeing a similar looking rash was about 30 years ago when I was a tween; it was larger, on the front of my mid-thigh, and was diagnosed as ring worm.

Can the rash reappear years later, or would it be more likely either a re-bite or a different type of rash entirely? My Lyme diagnosis was clinical, yet my Igenex results were ''clinically significant'' and I tested Igenex positive for babesia microti. I have been sick for about nine years.

I have also read that rashes, including bulls eye, could reappear years later.  I do know someone else this happened too also.

I am a member of another Lyme forum and there is a woman there that gets the bullseye back every time she comes out of remission. Strange... D

Wow! Thank you, everyone, for your replies! So it is possible that it is from previous or new infection.

I will let my doctor know. When I told my friend about this rash, she just said it could be a spider bite and that lyme rashes look like many other rashes or insect bite rashes. Is that true?

Weary1, ticker: Can either of you recall where you read about this, and if so, can you share?

Dowa, When you said the woman on the forum gets the bulls eye back every time she comes out of remission, do you mean every time she relapses after having been well for a period of time?

Hi spaztick.  I recommend showing your rash or the photos of it to your Lyme doctor to see what he/she says.

In the meantime I am convinced I had an em coming an going....in my face similar to one of the fotos around the cormer of my mouth, wandering up my cheek, dissapear, come again - for about 2 years; I always thought this was allergy related b/c it was not that red;

your comment on the Lyme disease is extremely important for me and I wanted to ask you some clarification.
I see you live In Germany, me too.
I used to study in Connecticut in USA some years ago. I used to hike and run there quite often and I think I got bitten one day.
I did not notice it but then I had a red spot not too big and a large circle around. At that time I had no clue it could be a tick. I thought it was a mosquito and did not pay attention. I am very often in nature.
It's a couple of years later by accident that I heard from Lyme disease.
- I have had issues with memory which I think are increasing and sometimes I feel I don't put words or sentences in the correct order but when I tell my friends they tell me it's due to stress. I don't remember anything I read or often what people tell me and despite I am quite stressed in my job I used to not be like this.
- my knee and hip joint have started hurting without known reasons and I am now wondering if it's not arthritis.
- the most important is that for a year I often have my face swollened around my eye or lip or knees, elbow, shoulders It can move within a few hours but it's more often on face. I took many pictures and should go to a rheumatologist I imagine. For now I've cortidone and antiisthamine to suppress effects when it happens.
I have never had any allergies. You mentioned something like that in the forum and wanted to ask you if it is a big symptom of Lyme disease?
- i have periods where I feel very tired and need a nap everyday in addition to normal sleep and still feel tired. But this is not all year long. It's by periods.
- mood swings etc.

I apologize for writing you all this but reading about your swollening face may help me find an origin. Also Is this bite and circle a certain sign of being infected with Lyme disease?

If you have any information on this and whether you could get tested in Germany, I would really appreciate!! I am feeling a bit hopeless.

spaztick, I couldn't open up the link you posted. I have a rash now so I really wanted to see the pictures.

Mine developed after I had horrible pain in my neck for about two weeks. Once it popped out, the pain in my neck went away.

Not sure what it is. I took a pic and am seeing my doc in June, but I was just curious.
