New infection - Lone Star tick

The critter I removed the other day has left his payload. Small Lone Star tick (preserved on clear tape.) The bite site became reddened, inflamed, itchy and oozing. I've been on doxy for ten days due to a relapse of RMSF, but have just switched to Azith due to peripheral neuropathy in my hands and extreme sunlight sensitivity. Since last night I've had muscle pain from my butt to neck, muscle tension everywhere, stiff neck, some brain fog (not severe, just irritating.) Of course fatigue, some GI distress. I'm hoping that being on abx already will reduce the severity - it certainly should - but I'm surprised that the level of abx wouldn't stop it more than it has. I haven't discounted the possibility that it is a relapse reaction to the tick saliva. The suck continues.

That specific tick can cause severe reactions if you eat meat. You need to be really careful. Research on line.

Fortunately, that doesn't happen with every Lone Star tick bite/infection. We have mostly Lone star ticks in my area - and they do carry an array of infections - don't let anyone tell you differently, even Lyme.

My symptoms always increase when I get a bite from a tick carrying more cr*p I don't need, and the area stays red and itches like crazy for up to 2 months. The first one I had attach (too small to identify type of tick though, in the darkened bedroom, hubby dropped it, so I just vacuumed!) was nearly 2.5 months ago, and the itching is just now leaving, but the red spot is still there. At least most of my shoulder is no longer red and angry looking.

That's good news! I have come back to my "baseline" pretty quickly in terms of symptoms and symptom levels after each of my tick attachments (3) so far this year as well.

Continue to keep track of your symptoms and I bet you will know if you ended up with more infections or not fairly quickly - you are pretty in tune with your body from what I've seen.
