This article appeared on the front page of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat today. It's a new York times subsidiary serving greater Sonoma County California which has a population of about 480, 000.



What do you think about the reporting?

I eagerly await to read the letters to the editor that ensue over the next few days.

The article itself underscores what I was just telling someone else on a different site. Unfortunately it's a story all of us know all too well.

When we're talking about the children though, it really does get to criminal status.

An article was passed around fb this week about a 7 year old Missouri girl dying, without proper diagnosis and treatment.

Turns out she had complications from Ehrlrichiosis,
which the article claimed to be "rare" We all know better. It's one of the top 7 Lyme disease co-infections.


I don't know how to fix the format, wish I did.

I agree July, it's especially criminal malpractice when children are infected, inspected, and rejected by mainstream medicine that blindly adheres to idsa dogma. I think the article has much more impact because of the devastating effect this has on kids as well.

I too saw this and am going to email the reporter, just criminal. We went through the same nonsense with my 7 year old in October. Thankfully Google with his symptoms pointed me right at Lyme+co so I ignored the 30+ doctors telling me nothing was wrong. He began treatment within 4 weeks of the onset of "flu like" illness. He's now on month ~6 of treatment, still has slight issues but getting there. I am just horrified and saddened to think of the countless parents who trust the white coats to give them the truth.

BJD-It's a really good article. You should email it to all our local TV stations. I comment every time they do a report on Zika or West Nile

"In most cases, the western blacklegged tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours before the Lyme disease bacterium can be transmitted, according to the CDC."

I wish they would NOT say this though. It is a false sense of security for Mums and Dads as they pull that tick off their child after an hour play at the park. They think they are safe from lyme.

This wasn't a bad article - good exposure. Gave a fairly balanced picture of the Lyme chaos and an accurate account of what I know parents go through - if they're even lucky enough to suspect Lyme or get a dx. Most don't. Think about that - MOST don't. And the epidemic is growing so much worse. Healthcare is growing so much worse.

SO GLAD you persisted, abenamou! I did the same thing - got fed up, started my own googling and got into treatment. Hope your little guy continues to do well.

This statement galls me. Of course it's true but why does the a-hole have to change the subject away from idsa's malicious denial of lyme?

I saw an id specialist who did pretty much the same soft shoe dance to deny that I had Lyme despite my positive igenex tests for all 3 b's.

I guess I should watch under our skin, I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it. Getting myself all worked up aggravates symptoms.

DW went with me to llmd appt the other day. He asked her how she sees me getting along. She said I'm nicer. She's right, I've found its not worth getting angry and raising my voice because I feel so much worse after. We're both hoping this continues after I'm well.

I was one of those kids that was infected in Calif before Lyme was "discovered" in the Northeast (I was infected no later than 1970), not sure how they can say that it's more prevalent in the Northeast considering my own case. I can't believe that I was the only child that was infected at that time. Absolutely no one had this on their radar back then.
