Tincture dosage

Hi all,

I have a question concerning the dosage of tinctures. Let's say Buhner recommends 2 tsp/day and the tincture has a 1:3 ratio (for example this one: http://www.bristolbotanicals.co.uk/pr-6957) do you have to take 6 tsp/day or do I have to stick to 2 spoons?

Unfortunately when Buhner recommends dosages he doesn't usually say the ratio, so we're often left in the dark. Sometimes on the website there's recommended herb sources, so I'll check those to see what ratio they're using, and extrapolate from there. As far as I know, his recommendations are not for a 1:1 tincture.

I wouldn't do 6 tsp a day, that seems high, as a 1:3 tincture is fairly strong.

That thread related to capsules, this is for tinctures. I need to be sure about everything as I dont want to do anything dangerous. Thanks

Ahhh! Okay. Basically the same would hold true for capsules or tinctures - concentrated herbs are concentrated herbs. Generally Buhner is recommending a 1:1 ratio, as Mustard Seed said, so a 1:3 ration would mean that there are 3 times the herbs in the tincture.

My thoughts were Buhner wasn't suggesting dosages for 1:1 herbs, unless it's powder. I'm not sure though. I use powder for everything, it's much simpler.

Buhner suggests woodland essences and I think the Japanese knotweed ratio is 1:5. When I switched to monteagle herbs the tincture ratio was stronger - 1:2 so I had to decrease the number of drops I was giving my son by 2.5

The houttuynia was 1:3 from WE and the monteagle ratio was 1:2, so I had to decrease the number of herbs by 1.5.

So it is important to factor that.
