Best tick repellent

Hey all,
It's summer time, can anyone recommend the BEST tick repellent? Please share your experiences.

Permethrin?

I don't use it...but we don't have ticks all over the place...not yet anyway...

I started making my own. Vodka, a drop of olive oil, essential oils (lavender, peppermint, tea tree) and water. So far no ticks in the house and we're having an epidemic in our county this year. Last year we had them in the house regularly. I thought they rode in on the dogs, but now I'm not so sure since the humans are the only ones using the spray.

Maybe I just haven't found them yet...

I have an essential oil spray that I make. I think the main EO is Rose Germanium.

I've been using it - as I don't want anything toxic sprayed in my clothes.

any sort of essential oil with garlic will work. Theu hate peppermint

Thanks for the replies all!! I know EOs work, however, I know permerthrin is probably the most powerful and effective. I know it's toxic, but not enough to cause issues in humans.  When it comes to ticks, I'd rather deal with a little toxicity and detox well afterwards than risk getting reinfected. That heavily outweighs any toxicity issues for me.

The best tick repellent is permethrin. You treat your clothing/tent or whatever, not the person so the chemicals are not on us. I have never had a tick on me when I wear the clothes that are treated with permethrin.

Permethrin is good stuff. You can't spray it on people, but you can spray clothes, tents, etc. To spray on people, Picaridin has been shown to be effective. Skin So Soft makes a good spray containing Picaridin. It's available on Amazon or the Avon website.

Picaridin is available on Amazon and at camping supply stores.
