Dr. C is my LLMD and has been treating me for the past 7 months. I would say your assessment is accurate: he prescribes pharmaceuticals and does not necessarily advise on more "natural" remedies/therapies. He has been researching and treating Lyme for 25-30 years and takes a more evidence-based approach to fighting TBD's.
I have paired my own antibiotic (and antimalarial) treatment with supplements after doing my own research and seeking the advice of a professional (found at my local health food store). I would bet that "Mrs. Greene's" across the street from Dr. C could help recommend someone you could see while you are in MK, if they don't have someone on staff to help you.
I would say that I am now 60-70% better. Dr. C is hoping to get me to 90%.
While his approach may not be exactly what you are looking for, I'll offer some positives based on my own experience.
You will feel like his whole office is there behind you, doing what you need them to to support you and help you get better. Dr. C and his staff are very compassionate and helpful. His nurses are a great source of info and I'm always picking their brains every time I visit (when they are meeting with me prior to my meeting with him). Every time I go, I get to meet with Dr C and I NEVER feel rushed. He doesn't leave the room until my questions are answered and he's sure there's "nothing else". (Of course, this means sometimes I sit and wait for him while I can hear him in with someone else, answering all of Their questions. But I'm okay with that!) If I email the office because I'm struggling with a particular RX, having a new symptom or really not feeling well, Dr. C always calls me back personally (usually within an hour or so) to check on me (and if I don't answer he calls me again, leaves me messages - he's persistent!). He often calls me every day or every other day when he knows I'm having a bad run just to make sure I'm okay and getting through it. He cares about helping his patients get better and his treatment goes far beyond just the office visit. He really is at your disposal whenever you need him which is a real rarity for any doctor these days, let alone one that is so specialized! He has a quirky sense of humor and a relaxed manner that has helped to make me feel that I WILL get through this and I Will put this behind me.
I'll agree, I would like the exact same approach you are looking for. But when you weigh all of the positives and negatives, it's amazing that he has the expertise and years of experience he has and also offers the level of care that he offers.
Personally, my plan is if and when I get to 90% (or feel I have plateaued) I have the name and number of an excellent naturopath with a very good reputation for treating Lyme. I will then meet with her and most likely stay on some sort of more natural regimen for the rest of my life. Because I don't ever want to be back "here" (or "there" - where I was 7 months ago!!) ever again.
I'm more than happy to discuss in more detail if you'd like. Just let me know.
Good luck to you!!
Awesome! I hope you make it to 100%!
Is he treating you for bartonella? Does he follow the Dr. M protocol?
I am also curious as to how you plan on keeping maintenance once you recover. I plan on doing the same. If you wouldn't mind sending me an email about
it, that would be really helpful.
