Resistance to Antibiotics?

Has anyone developed a resistance to antibiotics if treated for Lyme and coinfections with antibiotics?

I used many different antibiotics for 18 months. I only got about 30% better and then my stomach couldn't handle it any longer so I decided to switch directions.

I stopped taking them in January or February. After getting over a bout of shingles I now have a bladder/kidney infection. I'm on Bactim and my doctor said it was a good one for UTI but I am not much better after 5 days on it. Everywhere I have read said you should feel better after 3 days.

I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor on what she wants to do. I'm not sure I have the most confidence in her but that's another post.

My stomach is killing me and feels like it did prior to being diagnosed with the Bactrim, but it could be the Bactrim. My stomach started killing me with abx but I also got diarrhea too which I don't have.

How have others reacted to antibiotics for something other than Lyme after being on it for so long? I'm a bit worried.

I haven't been on any antibiotics for anything other than Lyme for the past few years..

But, this will serve as a bump.

Hope your tummy feels better soon!

I don't know about the bladder/kidney infection - hopefully the antibiotics will 'kick in' soon and you'll get over the uti.

Bactrim was the last antibiotic I took, exactly for a kidney + bladder infection while I was on vacations.

Sorry to hear it is not helping you.

Another thing I did, recently, while I was in holidays out of the country, was to do an auto-urine nosode.

If you have the Spooky2, you could use it in infrared mode (?) and take the nosode through it, if you don't want ingestion.

Google how to do a D6 or D12 nosode (in case you have acute infection) , or a D30 or D60 (if infection is a week old or so), or a D200, in case it is older than that.

You could use dr. W's way of photoning auto urine nosodes.

While I was on holidays, I simply drank my nosodes, from dilution D5 to D12 and that solved the infection. I did not have to go ask for Bactrim.

how are you sure it is a bladder infection?MD should have done you urine complete exam with sediment and culture with antibiogram.If it was sensitive to Bactrim you should have reacted well, if not, no.

What if it is a funky lyme and co symptom?(I do not want to scare you here).

I have strep in my throat resistant to all the lyme meds I took(which makes me think I have it from before I started), but sensitive to plenty others.Please do not get scared for antibiotic resistance if it is not proven(antibiogram).

Lyme and Bart can both cause UTI symptoms - without an actual UTI.

The dosages may be different for treating the UTI than for treating these infections - if so, it may be that they aren't strong enough doses to actually treat the infections. If you would list your dosages, those that are familiar with the doses to treat these infections may be able to shed some light on this for you.

Thanks all this is all wonderful information. I am printing it all out so I can find it easily . I do have a Spooky2 so that info is great.

My new LLMD ran a bunch of tests so it will be interesting to see what turns up. I know I still have Bartonella as my feet burn off and on. Who knows if I'm having a Lyme flare up, but those are all good quesions to ask.

Thank you all so much. I feel much better informed. On day 6 of Bactrim I am starting to feel somewhat better. I have been running my Spooky on the Bladder and Kidney infection presets so maybe that is helping.

This group just rocks. I'm so lucky to have found all of you. smile

Understand about the stomach issues with antibiotics. Always struggle with that while on them. Now I take only one, Bicillin, but it is a shot so it doesn't hurt stomach as much, though I still have some issues in stomach from the Lye, co-infections.

I drink lemon water, apple cider vinegar, take a digestive enzyme and probiotic to help.

I have noticed when my stomach does not hurt, my symptoms get much better.

Thanks runningwild, I am taking several probiotics and a digestive enzyme but I just can't choke down lemon water or ACV which usually I drink all the time.

I'll try and put my big girl panties on and give it a try.
