Need Dr in Midwest, will travel, live near Chicago

Hi All-

I've gotten the run around with several doctors I've seen near me in Northern IL. It's time to find someone new. I would like to see someone whose treatment doesn't center on heavy antibiotic doses, and who doesn't make you take antibiotics prior to being diagnosed ("antibiotic challenge" in order to do igenex blood test).

I have seen a few lists of LLMDs, but what I'm really looking for is someone who can say yes, I've personally seen this person, they are helping, I'm feeling better.

I will travel. I'm desperate.

If you don't get any responses, you could try the search bar at the top of page. I typed in "llmd in Chicago" and quite a few older posts come up. There might be a lead or information that may be of help.

You could also look for local Lyme support groups in your area. You possibly could find llmd references there from other people with Lyme.

Hang in there, I know it can be difficult and discouraging dealing with all the complications in life that Lyme and Co brings to us.

I just started seeing a doctor in Carmel, Indiana. She is a medical doctor but focuses on supplements and other treatments. She did a ton of testing first and has someone help you with your diet. I go back the end of July to find out the results and hear her treatment plan. I have a bit of concerns over the office organization and their prices but will stick it out for awhile and see how I do.

I saw a LLMD who only did abx.which didn't work out so well.

I can let you know as I continue with treatment.

@Laker7491I had read about the Carmel, IN office and was very curious. The doctor I was looking at there was male, so not the same doc, but he had gotten horrible reviews all over internet so I decided against it. I would be very interested in hearing how your treatment with them goes--they have an article on their site about some less common, yet most painful symptoms I have which is how I found them in the first place. It's about 4 hours for me to drive though.

kermit508 - I don't think that you and Laker are talking about the same Carmel office. I assume you are talking about the office with Dr. F. and Dr. T. I go there and used to see Dr. T, but now I see the ND there, who I really like. I think Laker was referring to a different female doctor of functional medicine in Carmel. I've seen her website and was interested. I'd love to hear Laker's experience after going back there.

Out of curiosity, which Carmel doctor had the bad reviews? Also, if you're open to applied kinesiology, the ND is great. He's helped make amazing progress for my husband, my son, and me.

Dr F had bad reviews on several websites which is why I held off, I was almost ready to give them a call. I'm glad to hear you are having a good experience there. Did they require you to take antibiotics in order to test for Lyme? Need to figure out if they are worth the drive...

Would either you or Laker mind emailing me the other doctors info?

They definitely won't require you to take abx for testing. They use primarily herbal treatments. Another doctor who used to be there did prescribe plaquenil for me, based on muscle testing. If you see one of the MD's there, a nurse will first spend a long time with you, going over your symptoms and history (and the nurses there are awesome!). Then you'll talk for a while with the Dr, who will then order a ton of bloodwork. They have their own in-house lab and don't typically use igenex, but they consider a negative western blot to be inconclusive. I think Dr. F also uses some muscle testing, but Dr. T usually doesn't. I don't have any experience with Dr. F, and my experience with Dr. T is so-so. They take insurance for whatever it will cover. Insurance won't cover the functional assessment (which you have every time) or certain tests. But they make sure to turn things into your insurance wherever it's possible.

I've been seeing Dr. W, the ND for the past several months. He doesn't do any bloodwork or prescribe any pharma drugs. Everything he does is based on muscle testing. A couple of years ago, I probably wouldn't have been open to trying that method, but since nothing else was working for me, I felt like it was worth trying. Now I wish I would have started seeing him from the beginning!

the doc who helped me the most is/was Dr. Yu in St. Louis.
He will use antibiotics but he looks at causes first
