Herbs can promote inflammation and toxicity

So called my LLMD about taking a particular herb alongside my abx protocol and they advised against it saying some herbs promote inflammation and toxicity. they also have a mild effect on bacteria and viruses so best to not mix them.

i haven't had a chance to follow up (and probably won't for a while) but seems most say its ok to take herbs alongside abx. buhner sure does. i guess you need to check interactions but what i can't get my head around is the 'promote inflammation and toxicity'. don't abx's do this by killing off bugs?

Many doctors that don't study herbs are afraid of them. I've had doctors refuse to treat me until I stopped ALL herbs, have them proclaim that the herbs were going to kill me and more. The most educated medical doctor that I have talked with that knew nothing about herbs told me "I don't know enough about herbs to help you if you choose to take them. You would be responsible for making sure there are no interactions or issues with the meds and herbs". This is the ONLY appropriate answer from a doctor that has not studied herbal applications.

And yes, some pharma drugs do promote inflammation as well.

Toxicity is a given due to the nature of our infections and detoxing is how we deal with this.

One MD from the Tropical Institute in Antwerp, Belgium, even threatened me saying:

" If you don't stop self treating using these dangerous herbs, no MD will ever treat you!"

That was the last time I put my feet in that place.


Humanity has been using herbs much before western medicine was born.

Of course some herbs are poisonous.

Of course, all drugs are poisonous too!!

There are interactions among herbs, among drugs, among drugs and herbs.

There are interactions even in food we eat.

I love herbs and I believe some have been used for thousand of years with success and with loads of scientific evidence to back them up.

Herbs are going to save some of us much suffering.

My llmd doesn't use them but he understands that they can be beneficial.

It is like all treatments, you have to be careful and make sure you research what you are taking, the side effects and the contradictions it may cause.

Totally vague and unhelpful answer. Sure some herbs are straight up poisonous. Some may be medicinal in some conditions but contraindicated in others. Some may mix well with antibiotics others may not. I think buhners position is too simple too. Mixing antibiotics with herbs is risky but that doesn't mean it cant or shouldn't be done. It just means you need to spend some time investigating the issue and only do it if you really think it's going to push your healing forward. There's no one size fits all answer. It's certainly not "all herbs are bad" and it's certainly not "herbs can never hurt you"
