So, what if I've been sign and symptom free already for 4 weeks? Just do the 6 weeks treatment then?

I'm going to pick up the 10 day prescription and take 200 mg twice daily. That will run out in 2.5 days. Hopefully I can get him to call in the full 6 week prescription.

At $5.40/pill, that will come out to $900+ for the full treatment. Is that what everyone else has seen?

Anyone have any experience using Una Rx Card or Good Rx? $5.40/pill seems ridiculous. With their discount, allegedly I'd pay less than $2/pill. I just read that about 18 months ago they were only 3 cents/pill. Yeesh.

I also see in Dr Burrascano's Guidelines that Amoxicillin is acceptable to treat Lyme Disease. It's significantly cheaper per pill. Is there a reason not to take it instead of doxy?

I am so lacking in information on antibiotics. My knowledge is minimal.

I do know that herbs are not this expensive!

So your rashes went away without any treatment?

I would still take doxy - at the 200 mg twice daily dose.

Correct. I had three bullseyes on my upper arm consecutively over a 3 week period. Shortly after one faded away the next would pop up. Each one faded away after 5-7 days. Only thing I took was Benadryl. With the first one, I was finishing off the round of steroids that Urgent Care had given me a few days before it popped up.

Do the bullseyes typically not fade away without antibiotic treatment?

I guess you could use amoxicillin - but doxy is the one that is most often prescribed and it also will treat Anaplasma and Ehrlichia (two co-infections that can be with the Lyme)
If it were me...i would take doxy.

And, you would need to have another medicine (usually probencid) to add to the Amox if you chose to go that route. Amox is not effective unless there is another med added in to keep it in higher concentrations in the blood stream.

Update... Been on doxy for a week now. Something strange though. When I wash my hands I get a pins and needles feeling in them. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have had pins and needles - early on in my infection symptoms...

But not just when I wash my hands.

Besides the pins and needles - no other symptoms have developed?

And are you still on only 200 mg daily of doxy...or were you able to add to it?

I've had aches and pains in my knees and left elbow. But who knows if that's related.

I'm taking 400mg a day.

Stomach is fine. Only side effect I've seen is increased thirst and a weird taste in my mouth about an hour after taking it.

I've done some searching and apparently the tingling is related to sensitivity to the sun caused by the antibiotic. I've been outside quite a bit since starting it. Anyone have the same experience?

Oh yes - the sun with doxy....I burned the backs of my hands - just from a drive to town and back. So 10-15 minute drive each way. Red, and little itchy bumps on my hands.

I had to stop taking it for a few weeks because we were going on a vacation to be on the beaches in full, hot sun.

Be careful with it...Do stay out of the sun.

Yes, it will help...but get a high number and apply it frequently.

I did have it on the backs of my hands...but obviously not enough....


That was the only time it happened. I went back on it after our vacation and I was fine...just being careful not to spend extended periods in the sun.
Driving to town and back was fine after that - when I was more careful.

I have a dosage question. My doctor prescribed me 100mg 2x a day. Also, everything I've read online suggests 100mg 2x a day, including an article published at John Hopkins. The responses in this thread say to take 200mg 2x a day. Does 100mg 2x a day not do the job?

I looked through the sticky post and couldn't find an answer. I'm sorry if it's been asked before.

There are two formulas for doxy.

One is doxy hyclate (very expensive)
The other is doxy mono which is much cheaper

Oñe is just as effective as the other
