Hello. I am new to this forum. I will recap. I went to an after hours clinic on June 26th for a circular rash where a tick bit me. It had been there a while before I went. Since the tick was on my back I didn't know it was there and wouldn't have known if my husband hadn't spotted it. The doctor gave me a month's worth of doxycycline. She said to come back in a month for a blood test. I was asked about fevers and chills. I do not have these. I am experiencing knee problems and am having some trouble walking. At night, I have mild pains in both legs that sort of move all over. My question is do all people who have Lyme have to have fevers and chills or diarrhea or vomiting? I don't know if I have Lyme or something else is going on. I am overweight and fifty which can account for most every ache and pain imaginable. What do you all think? Should I wait and go back to the after hour clinic? Should I see someone else? How long before you are bitten can you get an accurate blood test with Elisa or the Western Blot? I did call an infectious disease doctor but I was told my after hour doctor must refer me only if I test positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Elisa. I don't know what Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever has to do with anything. Can you guys enlighten me. Thank you.

Hi Brooklyn and welcome to our forum.

I am glad you found us but sorry to hear you have Lyme. If you had a bulls-eye rash you have Lyme.

There are many different symptoms with Lyme and not everyone experiences fevers, chills, diarrhea, and vomiting. However those could be from Lyme and the other co infections. Lyme rarely travels alone, ticks carry other infections/parasites also.

Tests can be unreliable unless you test with Igenix or DNA connections.

We ask all new members to read our "New to Lyme" start here post. It is at the top of the page under topics.
You will find very helpful information there about Lyme and the co infections, testing, detoxing, literature and different treatments.

Most Infectious Disease MD's are not helpful/or understand Lyme.

We can help you find an LLMD(Lyme Literate Doctor) you have to enable your email and then you can start a new post asking"Need llmd in such in such area"

There are many knowledgeable and compassionate members here. More of them will be along soon.

oh Yes there are many success stories here that I have read.

I believe it is different for everyone though. Some heal quicker than others and some it takes time and finding the right path and unfortunately their are some that struggle a very long time.

The important thing is to treat and treat properly. Detoxing is vital and building your immune system up stronger is also key. Eating healthy and cutting out sugar and some say gluten free is best.

Most people that catch it fairly soon have a very good chance of success.

I wasn't diagnosed for about 1 1/2 to 2 yrs so Its taking me a bit of time(9 months so far) but I am 90% better.

So, you had a tick bite - and knee problems, migrating pain in both legs. Plus a circular rash.

I would (to be on the safe side) take that one month of doxycycline....actually if you still have pain in your legs and knee problems...that appeared after the tick bite...then I would continue until those are gone...plus another 4 weeks.

don't take a LabCorp Elisa negative as proof you don't have lime! (and don't let a doc tell you you don't have lyme based on a neg Elisa)

you can print the Igenex requisition online and take it to your doc and explain you are concerned with the false negatives from other labs.

my GP originally shock his head and said I didn't have lyme. Upon much insistence and his eye rolling he was shocked when it came back positive smile

Another doc also laughed and told me I didn't have lyme.

Also co-infections are possible, and hard to test. the tests for babesia for example are only sensitive to a couple of subspecies, and there are something like 200 subspecies. a good LLMD will treat based on symptoms.

Thank you to all who responded. I got a steroid shot and another shot for pain and inflammation. I am hoping my knee settles down and that it is just a coincidence that this has happened after my bite and rash. I am concerned about getting negative results since many of these tests are not reliable. If we can't find any other source for the symptoms I am experiencing I will continue to get tested.

Hello. I am still having pain and not able to walk properly. The steroid wore off. I am now taking steroid pills. I have a question regarding my rash. There was no white in it just a circle of red that expanded and a bite in the center that developed a scab. Two doctors said it is not a bullseye and therefore not Lyme. Can you please confirm this? Thank you.

Brooklyn - Steroids are not good when you have lyme disease. They suppress your immune system...and can cause your symptoms to increase.
It can also affect your Western Blot test results...as it relies on your body to mount an immune response.

What steroid are you on now...and what dosage?

I can't say for sure by a description if it's a bullseye rash or not - but it does sound like it to me.

You did have a tick bite...and a reaction - I wouldn't mess around...treat it...now.

Girlie, I am receiving antibiotics. The doctor wanted me to have them for a month. I have around two weeks to go. I am taking Prednisone 10 MG. It is to treat me arthritis that they said I have today. I am 49 and haven't had a diagnosis of that ever before. These steroids are some kind of gradual dosage. I first start with about six, then the next day less, then fewer the next. Does this sound familiar to anyone? At this point, my biggest problem is not being able to walk. I am a caregiver to my husband and mother in law and a school teacher with class beginning soon. How do I get confirmation of the bullseye tick rash? I took a picture of it two weeks ago when this all started. I also have seen various EMs online that look like mine without the white feature. Has anyone else had a tick bite without the white feature and has been confirmed with Lyme? Thank you.

Did you post a link to the picture so we can see it?

There are variations of the bullseye rash. I would take the antibiotics until the rash and the knee pain is gone...plus another 4 weeks.
