23 and me- invading privacy?

I agree, I don't like my data out there but the benefits of knowing your mutations and risks are very valuable. I don't think they sell your name, just the data without personal identifying info.

Where this will go very bad in the future is if/when insurance companies start requiring DNA test and subject people to higher premiums if they have xyz mutations.

that being said, if you are very concerned about your dna data being tied back to you, I guess you could use an alias on the test req Patient name: Borrelia Bart

My Mom and both my sisters have done the DNA testing. I won't do it. I ask myself, "what for?" I am fine with who I am and don't care if 60% of my DNA "might" come from Scandinavia. As for the medical part, I don't know that I want to know that either. Will there be something that is a subconscious worry?

Great. As if life doesn't have enough blatant worries, now I have one in the back of my head all the time?

My Dad died of a heart attack at the age of 36. That made the entire family worry. Most of my cousins and sisters all have said that age 36 was so scary because of his death. So, I have lived worry and don't choose to do it again.

I won't give something that much power over me.

Just my opinion.

Is it worth it to you to have information that may help you access your health? That's the only question that's important to me. I have nothing to hide.
