Buhner Got it Wrong - Part 2

I was reading through the original post and, since it is at 4 pages, I am creating a new thread.

This post has me concenred with reactions to his herbs and antibiotics.

I am currently on clarithromycin and minocycline. My LLMD wants me on cryptolepis as well and said I could add in Buhner herbs slowly - Japanese knotweed, cats claw, eleuthero (which i am at full dosage taking twice per day now about 30 minutes before breakfast and antibiotics).

Is it true that these herbs interact, or could interact, with the antibiotics I take? Buhner seems to think they don't, but the first thread on this seems to disagree.

What do you think?

The one interaction I look for is the Cytochrome P450

Rifampin is on the list...I think Crytolepis is as well... Some are inducers, other inhibitors....just something else to wonder about!!!

I'd have to go back to the chart and check it.

Nic-You should be fine adding Crypto. I've taken that combo with no problems.

Based on the herbs you've added you might want to look into added LB Core from Green Dragon Botanicals. It's capsules that contain JK, Cat's claw, Andrographs, Sarsaparilla root, and Dandelion root.

Thanks jrpsf! Yes, I have see that combo from Green Dragon, but I am working my way up to that dosage with tinctures first. If I started with a pill with all those at one time, I think I'd herx pretty bad.

Did you read the first thread, Nic? Maybe timing the herbs away from the abx would be the best way to take them concurrently?

If I'm remembering correctly - elutheros is on the list, too.

I did read most of it.. But when you said the P450 list what do you mean? That this does interact? And I try to take my supplements an hour away from antibiotics.. Is that enough time?

The Cytochrome P450 list of meds is the one that lists the meds/herbals that can change the effectiveness of the meds.

But, there are different sections - inducers, inhibitors...etc. So one list means it inhibits the effects of the med and another list means it enhances the effects.

I don't know enough about it to advise you whether or not there will be an interaction that would affect your absorption of the med.

LLMD's don't seem too concerned about it, though...not that I've seen/read...

Read through the Part 1 thread posts...I think there's a post in there about how to space them...the herbs vx abx.


**NOTE - even though something can inhibit the effectiveness...it doesn't mean you shouldn't take it.
For instance:
Rifampin taken with Doxy can reduce effectiveness of doxy...but I know of at least one LLMD who prescribes them together.

Would it be acceptable to take the LB core from Green Dragon +Buhner Bart protocol herbs + rifampin + cefdinir? That is what I am doing, and it never occurred to me that anything could be contraindicated.

Sometimes its synergy that works .but i had more babs luck with artminsia and rife with alinia than i did with crypto.
