Unexpected break from abx....symptoms are back

I finished my abx about 2 weeks ago (not exactly sure, possibly 2 1/2-3 weeks). I went to my LLMD for a follow-up but he wouldn't renew the prescription or put me on anything new until I had some bloodwork done (basic stuff to check my liver, etc). Well, there was some confusion at the lab (not even worth getting into lol) which caused a delay in getting the bloodwork done. I was able to get it done today and I'm sure he'll get the results next week and put me back on something....but, man, do i feel like i got hit by a truck!

At the follow-up last week, I did mention I was having a lot of fatigue, pain, anxiety, etc. A week later, and it's just getting worse. Joint and muscle pain, stiffness, insomnia, and crushing fatigue. At the same time, my anxiety is so bad...I feel like I could jump right out of my skin!

Does this just mean that the infection isn't gone yet or could there be something else going on?

He did tell me to take grapefruit seed extract (I started today) and continue with my vitamins/supplements. I've already been taking magnesium, phosphatidyl choline, potassium, turmuric, lauricidin, fish oil, hydrolyzed collagen, and a multivitamin. I've also just added in a B complex, an anti-anxiety herbal tincture, and melatonin. And, of course, detoxing methods.

I just can't believe how tired I am. I can't keep my eyes open. And today I feel so spacey...like I'm floating outside of my body. It almost makes me laugh....I'm so tired but so anxious at the same time lol

Any thoughts?

could this be candida flaring up? are you taking probiotics?

I was on increasing dosages of Biaxin for three months, with a short overlap with Doxy, and then just Doxy for the past month. The plan was to continue Doxy and add in another, possibly Rifampin (although he did mention a different one last time but I can't remember).

I've been taking lauricidin (which I think helps with candida) and a lot of fermented foods. Maybe I'm behind on my detoxing...I can't really think straight or remember right now.

Its possible since you stopped the ABX specifically Doxy, the bacteria that was in cyst form could have come out also the bacteria could be replicating.

I have seen here that when people stop treatment before being completely in remission , the bugs come out to play again, some had said.

So the grapefruit seed is a cyst buster which if works I would think will cause more die off and possibly more herxing.


I would just be careful you dont overload your system with to much going on.

Thanks, Jo. That's what I was thinking....and probably why he added the GSE. Here I am panicking about not being on abx and it's probably part of my LLMD's master plan LOL!

I am definitely going low and slow with the GSE!

You should always have lyme and co herbs handy for situations like this. Don't take a break.

It's a mistake I recently made. I took a 3 month break off of everything, thinking I was good to go because I had gone 6 months symptom free. And onset of symptoms returned.

The best advice I got from my LLND after this debacle was "you should always be taking something". If enough time goes by whether it's 2 weeks, 3 months or 10 years, borrelia is always inside you even if asymptomatic. So why take a chance?

Maintenance herbs even after reaching remission should just be a part of one's healthy supplement routine.
