Solution for extreme nerve pain???

Is anyone else having extreme nerve pain so terrible and extreme I cannot even talk when having this pain. I have yet to find a solution to this and all the pain medications (oxycodone and gabapentin) rarely help. Any suggestions? Has anyone experienced this? I have yet to read anything about nerve pain. I read a lot about joint pain but this is more neck, shoulder, and arm pain.

I have not personally experienced that with Lyme and co But I know others have.

Hopefully they will chime in soon. There are older posts about this topic, you can do a search putting Lyme before it and that may be helpful.

I do understand about pain, I had Complex regional pain syndrome for most of my life, it thankfully went into remission. I am so sorry for what you are dealing with,it can be unbearable at times for sure.

I just hope there is something that others have used that may help you get some relief.

The Gabapentin didn't work for me.


I struggle with the nerve pain pretty much daily...and it is my worst symptom


What helps me is doing my exercises (physio - therabands) and following it up with a warm epsom salt bath.

I get relief for a couple of hours with that.

the trick is to find something small enough to go inside the nerves, like an atom or whatever small !

In Stephen Buhners book'Healing Lyme" 2nd edition, on pages 177 and 178 he writes :

"Generally, the bacterial invasion of the brain and the gliosis it stimulates give rise to a spectrum of common symptoms which differentiate into location specific symptoms as the disease progresses. Cranial neuritis(inflammation of brain neurons), meningitis(inflammation of the meninges of the brain, often leading to severe or constant headache)" .....then here is what might be possibly causing your nerve pain......he continues:
"and radiculononeuritis(inflammation at the root of a nerve in the spine just after it exits from the spinal cord)are the most common early symptoms. As time progresses, chronic conditions arise,MOST COMMONLY RADICULO-NEUROPATHY(CONSTANT INFLAMMATION IN THE NERVE ROOTS CAUSING PAIN AND LOSS OF FUNCTION TO VARYING DEGREES IN THE PARTS OF THE BODY THAT THOSE NERVES SERVE)...."

leading up to those paragraphs he writes about cytokines and glial cells and much more about herbals that will help with restoring/rebuilding and inhibiting damage to the brain and nerves.

Relief might come from not only regular treatment, but treatment designed to repair those affected nerves.


Just trying to help and figure out a way to get you relief from the pain.

I find the infrared sauna helps with pain tremendously for a good 2 hours after better then any pill ive taken for it.

Hi Gracie -

I'm sorry about the pain. My Lyme-friendly neurologist suggested that most Lyme neuro sx are caused by inflammation.

So, I'd try to make sure you're taking the right anti-inflammatories and that the dose is sufficient. I did really well on japanese knotweed and turmeric.

Goshawk, thank you so much. This forum has been such a blessing. I have ordered Buhner's book which is set to deliver tomorrow. I hope I can dive into it and put this into remission eventually and get my life back.

Of course you would rather have something quick and effortless, but lacking that, you might look into breathing therapies, as in yogic pranayama or qigong, or meditation such as mindfulness or vipassana. In addition to treating the root problem, which I personally think Buhner is very promising for.

Gabapentin brought my twin relief within a week! We legit brought her to the ER screaming her pain was so bad

Bvt was the only thing to get at the root of my pain.kratom helped in the interim a compounding pharm here makes a gaba ,ketamine and lido topical ...

blue- how does that pain cream work?

Before I knew I had lyme - I was reading about CRPS/RSD - thinking I could have that...and watched a video on the 'expert' who talked about a topical pain cream with ketamine.
I couldn't get it here at the time.

Wonder if they're still putting people into comas for treating the CRPS
