A 1 1/2 year waiting list for LLMD....is this normal?

So I posted last week asking for help locating a good LLMD in my area ( southeastern PA) & was excited to find one in my town...( there's nothing much here , so I was also surprised!)

Im already on a 3 month waiting list to see a natural practitioner , which I think is a very reasonable wait...but family is really pressuring me to go to a western medicine type doc, and I would def be open to further testing & medical info etc. I don't mind taking my health into my own hands at all, but I do want to have all possible info!

So I called to schedule an appointment today & found out there's
A 1 1/2 YEAR waiting list.... I was shocked! Even worse, they were unable to recommend any other LLMD for me to try while I wait. I did put myself on the waiting list.

So I guess I'll go back to the list Peteza sent me a link to, & try to figure out the next closet doc/s to call, unless anybody has a better idea? Think I'm partly just needing to vent, and partly wondering is this a typical wait time for a good doc? How long did you guys wait for a first appointment?

I called one girlie helped me to find and was surprised to get an appt in a little over one week, so you should definitely keep looking. I was wondering how much experience this LLMD had and was openly told how long she had been doing this, method of diagnosis and treatment. I'm hoping she's legit. I'll be traveling about 90 miles total although not right in my town it's not too far. Do you have transportation to travel a bit? There was another one on the list that is supposedly very good and might be even closer to you than me - I'm in S/E WV

Hi Casa -

PA has the highest reported cases of Lyme in the country right now and what's reported is a fraction of the numbers of people infected and suffering from Lyme so it's not a surprise that you have that kind of wait.

And you should not wait - I'd try and find someone out of state or near another metro area - at least to get started. And keep your appt and in a year you can get into see the LLMD closest to you. HOPEFULLY you can get in on a cancellation as 1000Daisies suggested!

Casa - did you email me - I have quite a few for PA? Or is the one with the 1 1/2 year wait - from my list?

Is the waitlist - including short-notice cancellations?

Hey everybody, Thank you for the support & suggestions! I finally did receive a response from ILADS today , so I have a few more docs to check out... and i guess the long wait at least tells me the doc near me must be good , so that's a positive...

...1000dasies, thanks for the great idea to proactively call & check for cancellations- I might try that!

Sweetlife, glad u found someone u can see so quickly ! Guess I'll keep looking. I don't have a vehicle right now, but hopefully will sometime soon, I'll also expand my search to out of state & see what pops up.

Pirouette, u must've read my mind, I was definitely considering just waiting, but I kno ur right & I should find see someone sooner. Thanks all!

That is an unusually long wait time. Glad ILADS got back to you. Definitely keep checking on the list I gave you and always ask to be put on the cancellation list.

Hope something comes up quickly. Have you thought about doing herbs in the mean time?

Also, you can go to what I call "doc in the box" local clinic and tell them you had a tick bite and a bull's eye rash and you are now having symptoms. That will generally get you 3 weeks of doxycycline. Anyway, way out west here, our docs do that.

Since she's had it for a long time - there's no point in getting 3 weeks of doxy. As it won't do much since she has to stop anyway until she sees a LLMD.

If I'm remembering - Casa - you've had symptoms for several years?

I wouldn't wait a year and a half though - that's not a usual wait- time. You should be able to find one that you can get in with in several weeks - maybe a couple of months.

Hey everybody, thanks so much for all the responses! I am doing herbs in the meantime, ( started Samento a few weeks ago,and plan to add in Cumanda next) so I'm not totally w/o treatment. Honestly, the idea of long term antibiotics is something I'm not very comfortable w/, & I initially planned on doing only herbal treatment. but I do want to at least see an LLMD sometime soon so I can make an informed decision etc.

Girlie, I will try to Email u in a few minutes, I think I enabled my email address in my profile ... so far I've been working off the list Peteza sent me , and also off the ILADS list, but I'd be grateful for any additional suggestions!
