Friends,

Have any of you experienced hair loss or thinning as a direct result Lyme or coinfections (not from thyroid, hormones, etc...,)? And not just on your head, but body as well? As I go through this process, I'm learning that Lyme likes collagen and if I'm not mistaken, isn't hair collagen? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this topic. Thanks for reading. Yes, hair is made up of collagen partly and yes, Lyme can do this as well. For a few years, I never had to shave my legs (boy that was nice in a way! LOL!) because all the hair on my lower legs just quite growing. I also had the hair on my head stop growing too, and become thinner. Now, I seem to go through phases of this, particularly if I'm stressed for a while.

And, it is recognized as a symptom of Lyme in a handful of scientific papers.

Thanks, Traveler. May I ask, did your leg hair grow back after treatment? How about hair on your head? I remember when I would curse having to shave my legs so often, now I actually miss those days! Thanks smile

LOL! I know what you mean! Yes, I have to shave regularly again!! I also have to cut my finger and toe nails more often!! LOL! I don't miss all of that, because I still have the arthritic issues from Lyme and company though. But, it's good to know that my body is making it's way back to health.

I take Vital Proteins collagen peptides every day and my hair grew back. No longer have a bald spot. It still falls out a lot but it's growing back at a fast rate so are my nails. You have to do it for atleast a month to see results. I mix it with my morning smoothie or tea or bone broth(that has collagen too if it has been made with chicken feet)

I can literally pluck the hair off my upper and lower legs w/ tweezers in about 5 minutes. It's nearly gone. Gone on my arms, too. Thinning everywhere else. I used to live in colder NY and wore tights 6 months out of the year but I think there are probably other reasons - thyroid and hvy mtls.

My head hair started falling out in clumps a couple yrs ago. I finally figured out that it was this awesome organic, GMO-free, whole foods food powder that I was eating (I was having severe GI issues, couldn't digest solid food), which included a rice product that was sourced from a high-metals area in China (thanks to amazon.com comments section!) I stopped eating it, hair stopped falling out in clumps.

But it's still pretty thin. I will care more once I've advanced to a maintenance stage of my tx but for now, just trying to very slowly chelate hvy mtls.

I try and avoid anything from China. China is the most polluted place in the world and anything coming from there is suspect.

Yeah, I can't imagine how much leg work it took to find that out about the rice... just think what might happen if food doesn't have to be labeled...

Interesting, Pirouette. I can relate. May I ask, have you been tested for heavy metals? If so, what kind of test did you have done? How are you chelating? I've wanted to do this for a long time but was afraid to do anything because I still have a few amalgam fillings. Thanks for the help. smile

I had a TON of amalgams from childhood. After thinking about it, I really wonder if they were all actually cavities and not a rogue dentist (I hated the guy) because my siblings did not have cavity issues.

Anyway, I had crowns done on 3 of my back teeth a few yrs ago, thereby removing the amalgams but this was before I knew anything about anything and did not make sure it was done correctly. I started having severe GI trouble after that - not sure if it was related because I also had a severe bout with food poisoning AND was under an insane amount of stress.

Anyway, my naturopath tested me a couple of times for heavy metals at the time (both blood and stool tests) and nothing showed up. I haven't done a whole lot of chelating except once I nearly killed myself doing it wrong.

But I still have several amalgams in one tooth so I suspect some level of heavy metals but am not in a position right now to deal with them as I probably should. So I have included either parsley or cilantro in my detox cocktail twice/day and hoping w/ the really heavy binders I'm taking that I am clearing something even though it's probably very little, very slowly.

If you feel up to starting, I would do the same - incorporate a mild chelator and go very slowly but be sure that your detox protocol is top notch. If you leach hvy mtls too quickly without removing them from your body effectively, they could get reabsorbed into tissues. GI binders are critical.

Thanks for sharing. Have you ever heard of chelating with cilantro and chlorella? Apparently it removes something like more than 70% of heavy metals and it sounds easy. I've been afraid to try it because I keep reading that I shouldn't chelate if I still have amalgam fillings. Do you know if there is any truth to that? Are you only chelating with parsley/cilantro? Which binder do you use? Have you seen a difference? So sorry for all of the questions! Thanks for helping smile

I have been losing my hair for over two years. I had a lot of hair so it wasn't noticeable to everyone.

The fine hairs along my hairline were gone, and I could see my scalp through my hair on top.

I've been treating babesia and lyme for 6 months now, and noticed new hair along my hairline last week! I was so excited!

My shedding has drastically reduced in the last couple weeks also. I noticed I was suddenly feeling better and then this. It was icing on the cake after feeling like I was literally dying for over 4 years

I just wanted to share because when I would search this topic, I would get very few positive results. I hope this will give fellow sufferers hope.

I have been on Bactrim, cipro, rifabutin, Malarone, tinizole, nystatin, and diflucan. Pulsing 2 weeks on 2 weeks off for 5 rounds now. I quit the cipro though because of strange jaw pain. Fourth round was the charm.

Oh, so you alternated each week.

You would have separated the Rifabutin and Malarone.

How is that going? That is a heavy hitting protocol.
