Hi Katebirch. I don't think the tinidazole is that harsh of a drug, I was able to tolerate it. In fact I tolerated the tinidazole better than I was able to tolerate the rifampin. The rifampin gave me some major fatigue, literally would knock me out after taking it, and it made my liver ache when I first started it. Also the rifampin made my pees and poos orange color and I ended up with some yeast in my stool from it.
I think the rifampin is highly effective for bartonella, but the Septra DS + Minocycline also worked for my Bartonella as well, and Septra DS is more tolerable. The only issue with Septra DS is that some people maybe allergic to sulfa drugs... I have no allergies.
You mentioned that perhaps catching it from a person rather than catching it from a tick has made it easier to recover from? To that I answer yes and no. My infection disseminated throughout my body very quickly and was already spread into even my brain in 4 days. Usually with a tick bite it takes longer to disseminate. Also I may have been exposed to a higher load of bacteria than a tick bite. My infection got into my lungs, lips, mouth, and spread very quickly. Also I have no protozoal infection. I believe organisms like babesia are not likely to be spread from person to person unless it is spread directly through blood contact.
From everything I am reading and some people I talked to. These protozoal infections literally make the others like 10 times worse.
