1- when you are very bad, it's easier to see improvements.
Example:
....you suddenly stopped puking just to see sunlight and can even enjoy being out (while before, that was simply impossible);
....you start to be able to walk (while before you could barely sit);
...you understand a bit what you just read (while before you read, and all words made no sense at all)
... etc
2- When you improve a little, it gets harder to measure:
... you start taking shower again, more often (before, taking shower was too energy consuming), then you gotta count how many times a week are you taking a shower (before lyme, I never spent a day without a shower, during lyme, it varied to once a month, to twice a month, to once a week, then slowly got more often).
...you start to want to meet people (while before, that rarely happened, for lack of energy or whatever reason), and that actually happens (so you'd better count how many times you meet someone socially).
... etc
3- Then you feel even better and it gets harder to measure improvements:
... symptoms disappear, or change (change of symptoms usually meant good things, in my experience)
... you get some good days (instead of only good moments)
... your brain seems to work a bit well again (memory of words come back... less difficulty to express yourself)
... you stop getting lost...
.... etc
4- Until you almost heal:
... you can't find any clear lyme symptom (but they may still be around....)
... you still feel something is not 100% right, but you are not sure it is really only lyme...
.. at that point, the memory problem is gone, the energy problem mostly gone too, you are not any more on any anti Bb or coinfection treatments for months...
5- Healing does fully happen:
... when you get often bitten and lyme symptoms do not come back (not raging, nor low grade), simply, nil, no symptoms.
.... when your whole treatment shifts from lyme to other problems, 100% of the time
.... when you need mourning lyme suffering (at least for me, that was a clear stepping stone for healing, I needed to purge all those years suffering, and that took me years)
... when your fears of collapsing or dying from lyme get very small (they never disappear if you lived traumatic experiences, I think, but they can become insignificant).
.... after at least 5 years without lyme coming back, you finally start breathing out and believing, you are truly healed.
... for me, seeing my daughter healed, like myself, living a life free from lyme helped me to believe that lyme became past history.
