Girlie- yes its an autoimmune condition, but autoimmune happens for a reason. Anyone with autoimmune has or had something in them which their immune system didnt like..bacterial infection, possibly food issues like gluten ect.
I dont think they ever bothered looking for an antibody associated with it like many more serious autoimmune conditions.
This came about
in late 90's, 8-10 years after my initial bulls-eye and storm of symptoms. about
the same time both Hashimoto antibodies got elevated too.
It shows more in the summer as these areas dont tan. I'm kind of medium complexion, so it still shows in the winter a little too. Its still spreading very slowly.
Like lyme, the Drs that will figure this out prob wont be regular conventional ones.
/www.vitiligosupport.org/treatments_and_research/herbs_and_autoimmune_disease.cfm:
"....People with autoimmune diseases, including vitiligo, must be cautious in the use of herbs. Many herbs, like Goldenseal, Astragalus, Echinacea and Spirulina are immune boosters. If the immune system is attacking your melanocytes, boosting it further with these types of herbs could be problematic."
Your da##ed if you do, da##ed if you dont.
So for all I know, my autoimmune friendly diet could be bad, but...as I've said here before one of my thyroid antibodies recently normalized after 18 years on this diet; thyroid med need has not changed yet though.
