Do you take or have taken Ibuprofen (Advil) NSAID?

Hello, Do you take or have taken ibuprofen or other NSAIDs for pain while infected with Lyme on a regular basis? I have read that it is contraindicated but I can't find the reason why it should not be taken. I take two Advil capsules when I can't stand the pain any longer and it does help, but the next day I seem to herx quite a bit. It seems that when it reduces the inflammation it exposes the bacteria which may then cause a herx reaction. It is the only thing that I can come up with as to why I feel a herx after taking it.

What is your experience with it and do you suffer from stomach issues because of it?

I don't know about it being contraindicated with Lyme, but are you eating food when you take the advil? bc if you are taking it regularly, it can cause an ulcer in your stomach, so I know you do have to be careful because of that reason alone.

I take advil when the pain gets to bad. Today it's my neck, back and arms, sometimes it a headache. I asked my LLND about it last week and she said it's fine if it's helping.

does ibuprofen actually help?? I can't say I've taken it for any amount of time to notice it causing side effects, but it's definitely not helping, either...

I took some today for my menstrual cramps, and it treated those fine, as usual. didn't touch the leg, chest and head/neck pains. I don't take it daily so I don't know if it doesn't truly help, but several 800mg doses on different days made no difference in my pain levels.

I've thought about trying naproxen or even acetaminophen.

I have found that NSAIDs are completely useless for me,they don't even touch the pain.

The only things that work are Turmeric and Boswellia.

They do take a little time to kick in however.

no help from NSAID's here either..., nor from opioids or lyrica...

Ibuprofen is horrible to my stomach, even when taken with food.

Dr says he sees with many of his patients that painmeds just don't help.

Naproxen helps take the edge off my pain, and I can't take anything stronger because I react badly to many medications. I mostly get gentle massages, swim, use a TENS unit, have a hot bath... Watch a comedy to distract myself... But often there's just not much to be done that really helps.

I damaged my liver and GI tract from taking ibuprofen, NSAIDS and naproxen. Please be careful! If I knew that taking nsaids daily for pain would so drastically change my digestive health I would have made a different choice. It's been known for awhile in medicine that taking NSAIDs every day for extended periods of time can cause severe liver damage. But, I think sometimes doctors are trying to avoid the pain medication conversation in general and so they push over the counter options. Recently, studies have suggested taking what was once considered a safe amount of ibuprofen is actually not very safe at all. But like I said Im probably biased because of my experience with them.

Thanks for the warning. With all my digestive issues (Celiac, IBS, acid reflux), I don't need any more problems!

Advil doesn't not touch my Lyme pain either. I'm on opioids. When I get a headache though, opioids don't relieve it, I add some Advil and it relieves the headache.

I actually can feel better after taking Advil since its an anti inflammatory. I never felt worse after taking it.

I only take it if things are REALLY bad. I have a lot of tummy issues is well, so I'm glad you reminded me of that.

Does Lyrica cause anyone's tummy to mess up? I'm taking Gabapentin, but it doesn't do Crap!

Lyrica has helped me a little in the past.

Just stumbled onto this post. Did you come to any conclusions regarding the ibuprofen? It seems to give me night sweats followed by peripheral and facial neuropathy even before and after I took antibiotics. So I just stopped taking the ibuprofen and I feel fine at the moment. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ibuprofen does not help much but acetaminophen does, with the neuro symptoms. but it can damage your liver so bad idea to take it regularily. i do take one when feeling bad.
